2020 Green National Convention
The 2020 Green National Convention (GNC) or presidential nominating convention was an event in which delegates of the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) chose its nominees for president and vice president in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The convention was originally scheduled to be held July 9–12, 2020, at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, but it was decided to instead hold the convention online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Site selection On August 18, 2019, the Green National Committee selected Detroit, Michigan, as the site for the 2020 convention, to take place from July 9 to 12 at Wayne State University. Howie Hawkins
Howard Gresham Hawkins III (born December 8, 1952) is an American trade unionist and environmental activist. Co-founder of the Green Party of the United States, Hawkins was the party's presidential nominee in the 2020 presidential election. His ideological platform includes enacting an eco-socialist version of the Green New Deal—which he first proposed in 2010—and building a viable, independent working-class political and social movement in opposition to the country's two major political parties and capitalism. Hawkins has played leading roles in anti-war, anti-nuclear, and pro-worker movements since the 1960s. Proportional Representation
Proportional representation (PR) refers to any electoral system under which subgroups of an electorate are reflected proportionately in the elected body. The concept applies mainly to political divisions (Political party, political parties) among voters. The aim of such systems is that all votes cast contribute to the result so that each representative in an assembly is mandated by a roughly equal number of voters, and therefore all votes have equal weight. Under other election systems, a bare Plurality (voting), plurality or a scant majority in a district are all that are used to elect a member or group of members. PR systems provide balanced representation to different factions, usually defined by parties, reflecting how votes were cast. Dario David Hunter (born April 21, 1983), also known as Yisroel Hunter, is an American rabbi, lawyer and politician. He is the first Muslim-born man to be ordained as a rabbi. A former member of the Youngstown, Ohio Board of Education, Hunter sought the 2020 Green Party presidential nomination, ultimately coming in second. "None of the above" (NOTA), or none for short, also known as "against all" or a "scratch" vote, is a ballot option in some jurisdictions or organizations, designed to allow the voter to indicate disapproval of the candidates in a voting system. It is based on the principle that consent requires the ability to withhold consent in an election, just as they can by voting "No" on referendum, ballot questions. It must be contrasted with "abstention", in which a voter does not cast a ballot. Jenny Leong
Jenny Leong (born 1977), an Australian politician, is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Newtown for the Greens since 2015. Leong is the first person to represent Newtown in its current form, as it was created for the 2015 election. Seth Kaper-Dale is an American Protestant pastor and activist. He has been co-pastor at the Reformed Church of Highland Park (RCHP) in New Jersey since 2001. Margaret Flowers (born November 8, 1962) is an American pediatrician, public health advocate and activist. After 17 years of practicing medicine, she became an advocate for a single-payer insurance system. Ajamu Sibeko Baraka ( ; born October 25, 1953) is an American political activist. In 2016, he was the Green Party nominee for Vice President of the United States on the ballot in 45 states and received 1,457,216 votes (1.07% of the popular vote). Baraka currently serves as the national organizer and spokesperson for the Black Alliance for Peace. Early life Baraka was born in 1953 and grew up on the South Side of Chicago.
