2019–20 Southern Jaguars Basketball Team
The 2019–20 Southern Jaguars basketball team represented Southern University in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Jaguars, led by second-year head coach Sean Woods, played their home games at the F. G. Clark Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 17–15, 13–5 in SWAC play to finish in second place. They defeated Alabama State in the quarterfinals of the SWAC tournament and were set to face Texas Southern in the semifinals until the tournament was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous season The Jaguars finished the 2018–19 season 7–25 overall, 6–12 in SWAC play, to finish in a tie for 7th place. Sean Woods
Sean Woods (born March 29, 1970) is an American former basketball player and former head coach for the Southern Jaguars basketball team. Playing career Woods attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis before playing college basketball at the University of Kentucky. As a Wildcat in 1992, he was a member of a senior-laden team colloquially known as the "Unforgettables" who had come to Kentucky in 1988 and had stayed with the school for all four years, despite the NCAA putting the university's basketball program on probation for three years, including a ban on post-season competition in both 1990 and 1991, for recruiting and academic violations in 1989. The Unforgettables were coached by Rick Pitino and included fellow seniors Richie Farmer, Deron Feldhaus, and John Pelphrey. Vicksburg is a historic city in Warren County, Mississippi, United States. It is the county seat. The population was 21,573 at the 2020 census.
