2019–20 NWHL Season
The 2019–20 NWHL season was the fifth season of the National Women's Hockey League. All five teams from the previous season returned: the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, and the Minnesota Whitecaps. The NWHL completed the semifinal round of the 2020 Isobel Cup playoffs, but had to postpone the championship game between Boston and Minnesota originally scheduled for March 13, 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. On May 15, the final was cancelled and the Isobel Cup was not awarded. League changes 2019 offseason events Following the 2018–19 season, the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) ceased operations citing the fragmentation of corporate sponsors between the CWHL and NWHL caused their league to be financially infeasible. National Women's Hockey League
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) was a women's professional ice hockey league in the United States and Canada that operated from March 2015 until June 2023. The league was established in 2015 as the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), comprising four league-owned teams. Over time, some teams gained independent ownership and the number of teams grew to seven; teams during the league's final season in 2022–23 included the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, Montreal Force, and Toronto Six. Pegula Sports & Entertainment (PSE) was an American sports and entertainment company based in Buffalo, New York. The company was established after billionaire Terry Pegula combined his sports, property and entertainment assets into one company. Randy Velischek
Randolph "Randy" Velischek (born February 10, 1962) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played ten seasons in the National Hockey League for the Minnesota North Stars, New Jersey Devils, and Quebec Nordiques, and coached the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League for one season. He was drafted 53rd overall by the North Stars in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft and played 509 career NHL games, scoring 21 goals and 97 points. Playing career Velischek was born in Montreal, Quebec. The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team based in Buffalo, New York. Cody McCormick (born April 18, 1983) is a Canadian former ice hockey player and coach. He is of European and First Nations descent, with both Oneida and Chippewa/Ojibway ancestors. Cody McCormick is from London, Ontario Canada and has played for Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres, and Minnesota Wild. He was also the head coach of the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women's Hockey League from December 2018 to May 2019. Ryan Equale (born 22 February 1973) is an American ice hockey coach and retired player. He served as head coach of the Connecticut Whale in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) during the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons.
