2019–20 NBL Canada Season
The 2019–20 NBL Canada season was the ninth season of the National Basketball League of Canada. The regular season was supposed to run from December 26, 2019, to April 23, 2020. However, on March 12, the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. On April 1, the season was officially cancelled with the league saying they will "begin preparations for its tenth season in 2020–21". The 2020–21 season was also cancelled. League changes Because of financial difficulties, two of the league's teams, Saint John Riptide and Cape Breton Highlanders, were granted a one-year sabbatical, with the goal of finding new sponsors in order to rejoin the league next season, reducing the league to eight teams. The decrease in the number of teams also caused a change in the playoff format with the top two teams in each division qualifying for the postseason. National Basketball League Of Canada
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada; ) was a Canadian professional men's minor league basketball organization. The NBL Canada was founded in 2011, when three existing Premier Basketball League teams joined with four new franchises for the league's inaugural season. The league changed in size multiple times and had four active teams in its final season, all in Ontario, but historically the NBLC had several located in the Atlantic Canada, Atlantic provinces. The league's season typically ran from November to April of the following year. The final league champions were the London Lightning, who defeated the Windsor Express 3–2 in the 2023 NBL Finals. Sudbury Community Arena
The Sudbury Community Arena is a multi-purpose arena in the downtown core of Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It was built in 1951, on the site of the former Central Public School, at a cost of $700,000. The approval and construction of the arena was overseen by Sudbury Mayor William S. Beaton, Bill Beaton. It is home to the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League and the Sudbury Five of the Basketball Super League (North America), Basketball Super League. It has an ice surface of 200' x 85', with a capacity of 4,640 seated, 5,100 standing and is wheelchair accessible. The Sudbury Five are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Sudbury, Ontario that play in the Basketball Super League (BSL). The team is owned by Sudbury Wolves Sports and play at the Sudbury Community Arena. History The team was originally approved by the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) to begin play for the 2017–18 season, but was pushed back to the 2018–19 season. The organization announced their team name, Sudbury Five, and colours in May 2018. Logan Stutz was named the team's first general manager and head coach on 9 August. Canada Life Place is a sports-entertainment centre, in London, Ontario, Canada – the largest such centre in Southwestern Ontario. Its previous names include John Labatt Centre and Budweiser Gardens. KW Titans (formally known as Kitchener-Waterloo Titans Basketball Club) are a professional basketball team based in Regional Municipality of Waterloo that competes in the Basketball Super League. Mile One Centre
Mary Brown's Centre (formerly Mile One Centre) is an indoor arena and entertainment venue located in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The arena opened in May, 2001, replacing Memorial Stadium. At full capacity the arena can seat 7,000 people. The arena is currently home to the Newfoundland Rogues of the BSL, the St. John's Jr. Caps of the SJJHL, the St. John's Sr. Caps of the AESHL, and the Newfoundland Regiment of the QMJHL.
