2019 Potosí-Oruro Highway Attacks
In October 2019, Bolivian militants of the then ruling political party of the Movement for Socialism (MAS) ambushed a caravan of miners, students and cooperativists who were heading towards the city of La Paz to join the demonstrations against then-president Evo Morales over alleged electoral fraud during the 2019 Bolivian general election. Events On October 20, 2019, different sectors throughout the country joined the citizen protests against Evo Morales. On November 10TH, a caravan of miners and cooperatives from Potosí and students from Sucre left to the city of La Paz with the express intention of joining these protests. Aware of this, armed militants of the Movement for socialism (MAS) intercepted the road and attacked the caravan with the use of dynamite and rocks. They also used firearms at the unarmed protesters. Chamber Of Deputies (Bolivia)
The Chamber of Deputies () is the lower house of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly of Bolivia. The composition and powers of this house are established in the Political Constitution of the State. The session room is located in the Legislative Palace building in Plaza Murillo. Movement for Socialism – Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples (; MAS or MAS-IPSP), is a socialist political party in Bolivia. Its followers are known as ''Masistas''. In the December 2005 election, MAS-IPSP won the first ever majority victory by a single Bolivian party. The party continued to rule until 10 November 2019, and was victorious again in the 2020 elections. MAS-IPSP evolved out of the movement to defend the interests of coca growers. Evo Morales has articulated the goals of his party and popular organizations as the need to achieve plurinational unity, and to develop a new hydrocarbon law which guarantees 50% of revenue to Bolivia, although political leaders of MAS-IPSP recently interviewed showed interest in complete nationalization of the fossil fuel industries, as well as the country's lithium deposits. Adriana Salvatierra Arriaza (born 3 June 1989) is a Bolivian political scientist and politician who served as President of the Chamber of Senators of Bolivia, president of the Senate in 2019. A member of the Movement for Socialism (Bolivia), Movement for Socialism, she served as Chamber of Senators (Bolivia), senator for Santa Cruz Department (Bolivia), Santa Cruz from 2015 to 2020 and was a substitute senator for Santa Cruz under Carlos Romero Bonifaz, Carlos Romero in 2015. At age twenty-nine, Salvatierra was the youngest legislator and third woman to hold the presidency of the Senate and was the youngest individual to ever exert presidential authority, albeit briefly in an acting capacity.
