2019 Koreas–United States DMZ Summit
The 2019 Koreas–United States DMZ Summit was a one-day summit held at the Korean Demilitarized Zone between North Korean chairman Kim Jong Un, U.S. president Donald Trump, and South Korean president Moon Jae-in, following the 2019 G20 Osaka summit. Trump briefly stepped over the border at 3:45 PM (GMT+9) on June 30, marking the first time a sitting U.S. president had set foot on North Korean soil. It was also the second time since the end of the Korean War in 1953 that a North Korean leader entered the South's territory, following the April 2018 inter-Korean summit. Senior White House advisors Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner (Trump's daughter and son-in-law) also attended the summit, with Ivanka Trump and U.S. envoy to South Korea Harry B. Inter-Korean House Of Freedom
The House of Freedom () is a four-story building located in the southern part of Panmunjom (Joint Security Area). It stands opposite to its North Korean equivalent, the Phanmun Pavilion. It is located southwest of the Peace House in the south of Panmunjom. The Inter-Korean House of Freedom was rebuilt on 9 July 1998 after demolition of the old house of freedom. The building served as the venue for a one hour meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un as part of the 2019 Koreas–United States DMZ Summit. Korean Central Television
Korean Central Television (KCTV; ) is a North Korean television service operated by the Korean Central Broadcasting Committee, a state-owned broadcaster in North Korea. It is broadcast terrestrially via the Pyongyang TV Tower in Moranbong-guyok, Pyongyang, streamed via the government-run internet television service Manbang, and also uplinked via satellite. History KCTV was established on 1 September 1953, as Pyongyang Television after the Korean War ended. Kim Il Sung personally envisioned that the time was ripe for television broadcasting in North Korea, but this was not yet to happen. Thus, the young service began an 8-year period of preparation for commencement of television broadcasts, with the help of the national government. Kookmin University
Kookmin University () is a Private university, private research university established in 1946 in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It has historic significance, as it was founded during by the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea and is the first private university founded after the liberation of the Republic of Korea from Japan. Prominent Korean independence movement, Korean independence activists Kim Gu, Jo So-ang and Sin Ik-hui, Shin Ik-hui are strongly associated with the university. In 1959, the SsangYong Group acquired the university. It has around 22,000 students and 350 administrative staff are working at the university's 800 faculties. Andrei Nikolaevich Lankov (; born 26 July 1963) is a Russian scholar of Asia and specialist in Korean studies and Director of Korea Risk Group, the parent company of NK News and NK Pro. Early life and education Lankov was born on 26 July 1963, in Leningrad, Soviet Union (modern day Saint Petersburg, Russia). He completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at Leningrad State University in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He also attended Pyongyang's Kim Il Sung University in 1985. Career Following his graduate studies, Lankov taught Korean history and language at his alma mater. Panmunjom
Panmunjom (also spelled Panmunjeom) was a village just north of the ''de facto'' border between North Korea and South Korea, where the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement that ended the Korean War was signed. It was located in what is now Paju, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and Panmun-guyok, Kaesong, North Korea. The building where the armistice was signed still stands. Its name is often used as a metonym for the nearby Joint Security Area (JSA), where discussions between North Korea and South Korea still take place in blue buildings that straddle the Military Demarcation Line. Ri Yong-ho (; ; born 10 July 1956) is a North Korean politician and diplomat who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Korea from 2016 to 2020. Ri's current status is unclear. The Japanese newspaper ''Yomiuri Shimbun'' in 2022 reported that he had been executed, citing unnamed sources. Cheong Wa Dae (), also known as the Blue House in English, is a public park that was the former Office of the President of South Korea, executive office and residence of the president of South Korea.
