2019 Big Ten Conference Football Season
The 2019 Big Ten conference football season was the 124th season of college football play for the Big Ten Conference and was part of the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. This was the Big Ten's sixth season with 14 teams. The defending league champion was Ohio State. The 2019 season consisted of a nine-game conference schedule for the fourth year in a row. The Big Ten had two new coaches for the 2019 season. Ohio State promoted offensive coordinator Ryan Day to head coach, replacing Urban Meyer who retired at the end of the 2018 season. Maryland also had a new coach for 2019, hiring Mike Locksley to replace D. J. Durkin, who was fired in 2018 ultimately due to the events that led to the death of player Jordan McNair. The College Football Playoff (CFP) is an annual single-elimination tournament, knockout invitational tournament to determine a national champion for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the highest level of college football competition in the United States. Greg Schiano
Gregory Edward Schiano (born June 1, 1966) is an American football coach. He is currently the head football coach at Rutgers University, a position he held from 2001 to 2011 and resumed before the 2020 season. Schiano has the most wins in program history as head football coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team. He also served as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL) from 2012 to 2013. Nunzio Campanile
Nunzio Campanile is an American football coach. He is currently the quarterbacks coach at Syracuse University. Campanile served as the interim head coach at Rutgers University for the final eight games of the 2019 season. He was elevated to that position from that of tight ends coach after the firing of head coach Chris Ash and offensive coordinator John McNulty. Christopher Ash (born December 24, 1973) is an American football coach who is the defensive coordinator of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He served as the head coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights from 2016 to 2019, and defensive coordinator of the Wisconsin Badgers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas Longhorns. Jordan Martin McNair (March 3, 1999 – June 13, 2018) was an American football player from Randallstown, Maryland, who played on the offensive line. Mike Locksley
Michael Anthony Locksley (born December 25, 1969) is an American college football coach. He is currently the head football coach at the University of Maryland, a position he has held since 2019. After serving as an assistant coach for several college football squads, he became the head football coach at the University of New Mexico in 2009, returning to Maryland as an offensive coordinator after his dismissal from New Mexico in 2011. In 2015, Locksley was named the interim head coach at Maryland after Randy Edsall was relieved of his duties.
