2018–19 Texas Tech Red Raiders Basketball Team
The 2018–19 Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team represented Texas Tech University in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The Red Raiders were led by third-year coach Chris Beard. They played their home games at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas. They finished the season 31–7, 14–4 in Big 12 play to win the Big 12 regular season title alongside Kansas State. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament to West Virginia. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, where they defeated Northern Kentucky, Buffalo, Michigan and Gonzaga to advance to their first Final Four in school history. In the Final Four they defeated Michigan State to advance to the National Championship Game, in which they were defeated by Virginia in overtime. Chris Beard (basketball)
Christopher Michael Beard (born February 18, 1973) is an American basketball coach who is the head men's coach at University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). He also previously served as head coach at Texas, Texas Tech, Little Rock, Angelo State, and McMurry. Beard graduated from high school from McCullough High School in The Woodlands, Texas. He was a manager at Texas under former Longhorns coach Tom Penders, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology. He received a Masters of Education from Abilene Christian University where he served as a graduate assistant in 1998. Under Beard's watch, the Texas Tech Red Raiders made the deepest NCAA Tournament runs in school history. Zhaire Smith
Zhaire Jahi-ihme Smith (born June 4, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Texas Legends of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for Texas Tech before being drafted 16th overall by the Phoenix Suns and traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. High school career Smith attended Lakeview Centennial High School, where he was coached by J. T. Locklear. He averaged 20.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a senior. Smith earned District 10-6A MVP honors and was voted the best dunker in the Dallas region by area coaches. 2018 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 men's basketball tournament was a postseason men's basketball tournament for the Big 12 Conference. It was played from March 7 to 10, in Kansas City, Missouri at the Sprint Center. Kansas defeated West Virginia in the championship game to win the tournament and receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
