2018–19 Liga MX Season
The 2018–19 Liga MX season (known as the Liga BBVA Bancomer MX for sponsorship reasons) was the 72nd professional season of the top-flight football league in Mexico. The season was split into two championships—the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura—each in an identical format and each contested by the same eighteen teams. Lobos BUAP was initially relegated to the Ascenso MX after accumulating the lowest point coefficient last season, but instead they will continue to compete in the Liga MX after the 2017–18 Ascenso MX champion, Cafetaleros de Tapachula, who won promotion after defeating Alebrijes de Oaxaca, was not certified to be promoted. Liga MX
Liga MX, also known as Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Mexico and the highest level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Liga Mayor (1943–1949) and also as Primera División de México (1949–2012), it has 18 participating clubs, with each season divided into two short tournaments, ''Apertura'' from July to December and ''Clausura'' from January to May. The champions are decided by a final phase called ''"liguilla"''. Since 2020, promotion and relegation has been suspended, which is to last until 2026. The league currently ranks first in CONCACAF's league ranking index. Estadio Jalisco
Jalisco Stadium is a football stadium located in Guadalajara, Mexico. It is the third-largest Mexican football stadium behind Estadio Azteca and Estadio Olímpico Universitario with a capacity of 56,713 spectators. Estadio Azteca () (officially known as Estadio Banorte for sponsorship reasons) is a football stadium located in Coyoacán, Mexico City. It is the official home of football team Club América, as well as the Mexico national team. The stadium sits at an altitude of above sea level. Alebrijes de Oaxaca Fútbol Club is a Mexican professional Association football, football club based in Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Oaxaca, that plays in Liga de Expansión MX, the second level division of Mexican football league system, Mexican football. Cafetaleros De Tapachula
Club de Fútbol Cafetaleros de Chiapas was a Mexican football club based in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas currently competing in Liga Premier de México, the third tier of Mexican football. Between 2015 and 2020, the team played at Ascenso MX, the second tier of Mexican football. On June 26, 2020, the club's first-team squad was relocated to Cancún, Quintana Roo and renamed as Cancún F.C., however, Cafetaleros de Chiapas kept the team registered in Liga Premier, which was affiliated with Cancún F.C. between 2020 and 2022. 2017–18 Ascenso MX Season
The 2017–18 Ascenso MX season is a two-part competition: Apertura 2017 and Clausura 2018. Ascenso MX is the second-tier football league of Mexico. Apertura began on 21 July 2017, and Clausura began on 5 January 2018. Changes from the previous season Six teams meet the requirements to be promoted to the Liga MX for the 2018–2019 season. Those teams are Atlético San Luis, Atlante, Celaya, Juárez, Sinaloa, and UdeG. The remaining teams were awarded MXN$120 million for winning the promotion playoff, which should be utilized to fulfill necessary requirements for promotion within the next season, and remain in Ascenso MX. If a team wins promotion but does not meet requirements for Liga MX, the relegated Liga MX team of the 2017–18 season will be obligated to pay the prize money to that team, and the relegated Liga MX team will remain in first division. Ascenso MX
Ascenso MX, also known as Ascenso BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, was a professional association football league in Mexico and the second level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Primera División A de México (1994–2009) and also as Liga de Ascenso (2009–2012). The champions of the competition was promoted to Liga MX (top level), and the bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier (third level). In 2012, the league rebranded its name and competition format as Ascenso MX, the major changes (clubs do not need a FMF certification to be promoted and that the competition no longer used group stages).
