2018–19 Girabola
The 2018–19 Girabola was the 41st season of top-tier football in Angola. The season was held from 27 October 2018 to 19 May 2019. The league was contested by 16 teams and the bottom three teams were relegated to the 2020 Provincial stages. In the 13th round match between Saurimo FC and ASA, the home team goal-keeper Anselmo felt confident enough to leave his goal unguarded and shoot a free kick that had been awarded for his team, 25 minutes into the game. His confidence paid off as he scored the only goal in the home team's 1-0 win, something unheard of in Angolan football. Teams A total of 16 teams contested the league, including 13 sides from the 2018 season and three promoted from the 2018 Segundona - ASA, Saurimo FC ''(ex-Bikuku FC)'' and Santa Rita de Cássia. Girabola
Girabola, or ''Campeonato Nacional de Futebol de Séniores Masculinos'', is the top division of Angolan association football, football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation. The term "Girabola" () is a creation of the nationalist, radio broadcaster and sports reporter Rui Carvalho, in 1972, at a time when the Angolan championship was still officially called "Campeonato do Estado Ultramarino de Angola". The name "Girabola" differentiated the competition from the other overseas provinces and was a subtle form of anti-colonial protest. Estrela Clube Primeiro De Maio
Estrela Clube Primeiro de Maio, usually known simply as Primeiro de Maio or 1º de Maio, is a football (soccer) club from Benguela, Angola. The club was the result of a merger from two clubs: Estrela Vermelha de Benguela and Grupo Desportivo 1º de Maio being then named África Têxtil 1º de Maio de Benguela due to its then major sponsor, a Benguela-based textile factory called África Têxtil. Shortly afterwards, the name was changed to its present denomination. In its golden years, in the 1980s, the club has won two Angolan leagues (1983 and 1985), three Angolan cups (1982, 1983 and 2007) and one Angolan supercup (1985). Estádio Dos Coqueiros
Estádio dos Coqueiros is a multi-use stadium in Luanda, Angola. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home ground of S.L. Benfica (Luanda), Benfica de Luanda and Kabuscorp S.C.P., Kabuscorp. The stadium holds 12,000 people and was built during the colonial period, in 1947. It underwent major renovation works in 2005. Estádio Do Buraco
Estádio do Buraco is a football stadium in Lobito, Benguela Province, Angola. It is owned by Académica Petróleos do Lobito and holds 5,000 people. History The Estádio do Buraco was built in the 1970s, at the Bairro Santa Cruz. In 1999, the stadium was the venue of the 1–2 home defeat of Académica to Atlético Sport Aviação, a result that relegated Académica to the 2nd rank in the overall Girabola classification of that year. Lobito
Lobito is a municipality in Angola. It is located in Benguela Province, on the Atlantic Coast north of the Catumbela Estuary. The Lobito municipality had a population of 393,079 in 2014. Kabuscorp Sport Clube do Palanca, known simply as Kabuscorp, is an Angolan multi-sports club based in Luanda. The club's football teams contests at the Angolan major league Girabola as well as at the African club competitions. Académica Petróleos do Lobito, usually known as Académica Lobito, are a association football, football (soccer) club from Lobito, Angola. The club was founded in 1970 as Académica da Chilimba by Mr. Geraldo Guiado and a few associates. Tout Puissant Mazembe, commonly referred to as TP Mazembe, is a Congolese professional association football, football club based in Lubumbashi. History Tout Puissant Mazembe, the first sports club from the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a value of at least $10 million, was originally founded by the Benedictine monks who directed the Institut Saint-Boniface school in Élisabethville (modern-day Lubumbashi) in Katanga Province.
