2018–19 Gibraltar Premier Division
The 2018–19 Gibraltar Premier Division was the 120th season of the top-tier state Association football, football league in Gibraltar, as well as the sixth season since the Gibraltar Football Association joined UEFA in 2013. The league was contested by ten clubs, and began on 13 August 2018. Lincoln Red Imps F.C., Lincoln Red Imps were the reigning champions, having won their 23rd title the previous season. They competed in the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Champions League qualifiers, while Europa F.C., Europa and St Joseph's F.C., St Joseph's contested the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League, UEFA Europa League qualifiers. Gibraltar Premier Division
The Gibraltar Premier Division was a football league established by the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) in 1905, and the top tier of football in Gibraltar. It originally contained eight member clubs, but it has grown over the years. In 1909 the league was split into two divisions between which clubs can be promoted and relegated at the end of each season. In the 2013–14 season, the Premier Division contained eight clubs with the Second Division containing 12 clubs. For sponsorship reasons it is known as the Argus Insurance Premier Division. From the 2014–15 season, as a result of the territory's membership of UEFA, the champions entered the first UEFA Champions League qualifying round. The winners of Gibraltar's cup competition, the Rock Cup, meanwhile, gained entry to the following season's UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds. The Gibraltar Intermediate League is a semi-professional football league administered by the Gibraltar Football Association, launched in June 2018 as a replacement for the Gibraltar Reserves Division and the Under 18 Division in an effort to improve the standards of young Gibraltarian footballers. History From 2008 until 2018, reserve team football in Gibraltar had been run under the Gibraltar Reserves Division. In this league, there were no restrictions on what players could participate, and some clubs would often field numerous members of the first team in fixtures. However, on 5 June 2018, the Gibraltar Football Association announced sweeping changes to the league structure, introducing the Intermediate League. The 2017–18 Gibraltar Second Division was the fifth season of the second-tier football in Gibraltar since the Gibraltar Football Association joined UEFA. Like the previous season, this year the league was contested by 9 clubs. The season began on 26 September 2017, and ended in May 2018, with a mid-season break while Victoria Stadium underwent improvements. There was no Chesterton's Cup this season. Gibraltar Phoenix were the reigning champions, having won the league for the first time the previous season and earning promotion to the Premier Division. Boca Gibraltar won their first title this season, securing the title by a single point after a 1–1 draw with arch-rivals Bruno's Magpies on the final day of the season.
