Västernorrland County or Region Västernorrland held Regional councils of Sweden, regional council 2018 Swedish local elections, elections on 9 September 2018 on the same day as the 2018 Swedish general election, general and municipal elections. Results The number of seats remained at 77 with the Swedish Social Democratic Party, Social Democrats winning the most at 28, a drop of ten from in 2014 Västernorrland county election, 2014. The party especially lost a lot of ground in Sollefteå Municipality, Sollefteå following the closure of the childbirth unit of the local hospital, going from 47.6% to 14%. Västernorrland County
Västernorrland County () is a county ('' län'') in the north of Sweden. It is bordered by the counties of Gävleborg, Jämtland, Västerbotten and the Gulf of Bothnia. The name ''Västernorrland'' means "Western Norrland", as it was in the western part of the original Norrland (northern Sweden and northern Finland). The Liberals (, L), formerly known as the Liberal People's Party () until 22 November 2015, is a conservative-liberal political party in Sweden. The Liberals ideologically have shown a broad variety of liberal tendencies. Currently they are seen as following economic liberalism and have been described as being centre-right. The party is a member of the Liberal International and Renew Europe. Historically, the party was positioned in the centre of the Swedish political landscape, willing to cooperate with both the political left and the right. It has since the leadership of Lars Leijonborg and Jan Björklund in the 2000s positioned itself more towards the right.
