2018 FFA Cup Final
The 2018 FFA Cup Final was the fifth final of the FFA Cup, Australia's main football cup competition. The match was contested between Adelaide United and Sydney FC, in a rematch of the 2017 FFA Cup Final which Sydney FC won. Coopers Stadium in Adelaide hosted the game. The match was broadcast live on Fox Sports. Road to the final Adelaide United's progress started at home against fellow A-League side Central Coast Mariners. In a match held at Marden Sports Complex, they won 3–0 through goals to Jordan Elsey, debutant Mirko Boland and Craig Goodwin. The other three wins to take Adelaide to the Final were over National Premier Leagues teams, and as a result all played away from home under competition rules. 2018 FFA Cup
The 2018 FFA Cup was the fifth season of the FFA Cup, the main national soccer knockout cup competition in Australia. 32 teams contested the competition proper (from the Round of 32), including the 10 A-League teams and 21 Football Federation Australia (FFA) member federation teams determined through individual state qualifying rounds, as well as the reigning National Premier Leagues Champion (Heidelberg United from Victoria). Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. Trent Buhagiar (born 27 February 1998) is an Australian professional footballer who plays for Newcastle Jets in the A-League. Early life Born in Gosford, Buhagiar moved to and grew up on the Central Coast of New South Wales, playing junior football for the Umina Eagles. A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Alex Brosque
Alex Jason Brosque (; born 12 October 1983) is an Australian former professional footballer who was the captain of A-League club Sydney FC. He played primarily as a striker but played predominantly as a midfielder in central midfield during his time in Japan. Club career Brosque was born in Sydney, Australia, to Uruguayan parents, who migrated to Australia in the 70s. In 2001 Brosque, aged 18, began his career playing for Marconi Stallions in the now defunct National Soccer League. Benjamin Halloran (born 14 June 1992) is an Australian football player who plays as a winger for A-League Men club Adelaide United. Club career Gold Coast United Halloran made his debut for Gold Coast United as a substitute in their Round 4, 1–0 loss to Melbourne Victory in the 2010–11 season. On 6 January 2011, Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg addressed the speculation that the talented player may leave the club however Bleiberg was adamant that the player was contracted for another two years and unless a sizable transfer offer was made the player would remain at Gold Coast. The National Premier Leagues (NPL) is a national association football competition in Australia which acts as the second tier of the sport in the country below the A-League. Mirko Boland (born 23 April 1987) is a German professional footballer who plays for VfB Lübeck as a midfielder. Career Boland grew up in the Lower Rhine region, North Rhine-Westphalia, and played youth football for SV Rees, FC Schalke 04 and MSV Duisburg. Jordan Elsey (born 2 March 1994) is an Australian footballer who plays as a centre back for Newcastle Jets in the A-League. Playing career In December 2013, Elsey joined Hong Kong First Division club Kitchee on loan, however he was recalled early and subsequently did not make a senior appearance. Marden Sports Complex
Marden Sports Complex is a multi-use stadium in Marden, South Australia. It is mainly used for soccer and is the home ground for National Premier League side Adelaide Blue Eagles. It was also used for the 2004 OFC Nations Cup and the 2006 AFC Women's Asian Cup. The stadium was built in 2000 and has a capacity of 6,000 people. It was co-host to the group stage of the 2004 OFC Nations Cup alongside Hindmarsh Stadium, with Marden hosting five games including one Socceroos match, a 6–1 win over Fiji featuring a Tim Cahill hattrick. Two years later the stadium hosted one match of the 2006 AFC Women's Asian Cup, a 5–0 win by the Matildas against Thailand. A-League
A-League Men (known as the Isuzu UTE A-League for sponsorship reasons) is the highest-level professional men's soccer league in Australia and New Zealand. At the top of the Australian league system, it is the country's premier men's competition for the sport. A-League Men was established in 2004 as the A-League by the Football Federation Australia (FFA) as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL) and competition commenced in August 2005.
