2017–18 Welsh League Cup
The 2017–18 Welsh League Cup (known for sponsorship purposes as The Nathaniel MG Cup) was the 26th season of the Welsh Premier League's cup competition, which was established in 1992. Played under a regionalised, knock-out format, the 2017–18 competition was the fourth to be held since the tournament was expanded to include clubs from outside the Welsh Premier League. As well as the 12 Welsh Premier League clubs from the previous season, the top five qualifying clubs from the northern and southern feeder leagues would enter the tournament, along with a number of wildcard entrants. The New Saints reached their tenth final and won the match 1–0, retaining the trophy and securing their ninth title. Their opponents were fellow Welsh Premier League side Cardiff Met who made their first appearance in the final. First round Ties were played on 29 & 30 August 2017. Pontypridd ( , ), colloquially referred to as ''Ponty'', is a town and a community in Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales, approximately 10 miles north west of Cardiff city centre. Geography Pontypridd comprises the electoral wards of Cilfynydd, Glyncoch, Graig, Hawthorn, Pontypridd Town, 'Rhondda', Rhydyfelin Central/Ilan, Trallwng ( Trallwn) and Treforest. The town mainly falls within the Senedd and UK parliamentary constituency by the same name, although the Cilfynydd and Glyncoch wards fall within the Cynon Valley Senedd constituency and the Cynon Valley UK parliamentary constituency. Caernarfon Town Football Club () is a professional Welsh football club based in Caernarfon, Gwynedd. They play in the . They are nicknamed "the Canaries" because of the club's yellow and green strip, a nickname that dates from 1895. Caernarfon Town plays at The Oval. History Predecessors The first football club in Caernarfon, known as Carnarvon Wanderers, was formed in September 1876 and played at various grounds before moving to the Oval in 1888. On 30 October 1886, Wanderers were the first team from north west Wales to enter the FA Cup and lost 10–1 away to Stoke. Five years later, however, that particular club went out of existence but, in 1894, several former players began a new team called Carnarvon Ironopolis. That club competed in the North Wales Coast League, winning the championship on two occasions and reaching the semi-final of the Welsh Cup in 1900 and again in 1902.
