2017–18 Texas Southern Tigers Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team represented Texas Southern University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Tigers, led by sixth-year head coach Mike Davis, played their home games at the Health and Physical Education Arena in Houston, Texas as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 16–20, 12–6 in SWAC play to finish in a three-way tie for second place. Due to Grambling State's Academic Progress Rate violations and subsequent postseason ineligibility, they received the No. 3 seed in the SWAC tournament where they defeated Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and Arkansas–Pine Bluff to become SWAC Tournament champions. They received the SWAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they defeated North Carolina Central in the First Four before losing in the first round to Xavier. Mike Davis (basketball, Born 1960)
Michael Davis (born September 15, 1960) is an American basketball coach at the University of Memphis. Prior to that he was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Detroit Mercy, a position he held from 2018 to 2024. Davis also served as the head men's basketball coach at Indiana University Bloomington from 2000 to 2006, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) from 2006 to 2012, and Texas Southern University from 2012 to 2018. Playing career Davis, an Alabama native, spent his collegiate playing career with the University of Alabama Crimson Tide after earning the state's Mr. Basketball honor in 1979. In his first season, he played for the legendary C. M. Newton and then spent his final three years playing under another coaching legend, Wimp Sanderson. The Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball program is a college basketball team that represents the University of Nevada, Reno. The team is currently a member of the Mountain West Conference, which is a Division I (NCAA), Division I conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The 2016–17 North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team represented the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was head coach Roy Williams' 14th season. The Tar Heels played their home games at the Dean Smith Center as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2017 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the men's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball national champion for the 2016–17 season. The 79th edition of the tournament began on March 14, 2017, and concluded with the championship game on April 3 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The championship game was the first to be contested in the Western United States since the 1995 tournament when Seattle was the host of the Final Four.
