2017–18 Southampton F.C. Season
The 2017–18 Southampton F.C. season was the club's 19th season in the Premier League and their 41st in the top division of Football in England, English football. In addition to the Premier League, the club also competed in the 2017–18 FA Cup, FA Cup and the 2017–18 EFL Cup, EFL Cup. Southampton finished 17th in the Premier League table with seven wins, 15 draws and 16 losses. They were knocked out of the EFL Cup in the second round by EFL Championship, Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., Wolverhampton Wanderers, and were knocked out of the semi-finals of the FA Cup by Chelsea F.C., Chelsea. The season was Southampton's first and only campaign with manager Mauricio Pellegrino, who replaced Claude Puel after one season in charge on 23 June 2017. Paulo Dino Gazzaniga Farías (born 2 January 1992) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for La Liga club Girona. Early life Gazzaniga was born in Murphy, Santa Fe, the same small town in Argentina where his future Southampton and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was also born. Jay Enrique Rodriguez (born 29 July 1989) is an English professional Association football, footballer who plays as a Forward (association football), forward for club Wrexham A.F.C., Wrexham. Rhu-endly Aurelio Jean-Carlo Martina (born 25 September 1989), known as Cuco Martina, is a professional footballer who plays for the Curaçao national team. He plays primarily as a right-back, but can also play as a centre-back or defensive midfielder. José Martín Cáceres Silva (; born 7 April 1987) is an Uruguayan professional footballer for Paraguayan Primera División club Libertad. Claude Jacques Puel (; born 2 September 1961) is a French football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He spent his entire playing career with Monaco, before becoming manager of the club, leading them to the league title in his first full season in charge. He has also managed Lille, Lyon, Nice and Saint-Étienne in Ligue 1, and Southampton and Leicester City in England's Premier League.
