2017–18 Marshall Thundering Herd Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team represented the Marshall University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Thundering Herd, led by fourth-year head coach Dan D'Antoni, played their home games at the Cam Henderson Center as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 25–11, 12–6 in C-USA play to finish in fourth place. They defeated UTSA, Southern Miss, and Western Kentucky to become champions of the C-USA tournament. They received C-USA's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where, as a No. 13 seed, they upset Wichita State in the first round before losing to West Virginia in the second round. Previous season The Thundering Herd finished the 2016–17 season 20–15, 10–8 in C-USA play to finish in sixth place. Dan D'Antoni
Lewis Joseph "Dan" D'Antoni II (born July 9, 1947) is an American former basketball player and coach, who most recently served as head coach for the Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team. He was previously an assistant coach under his younger brother, Mike D'Antoni, with the NBA's Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers. Playing career Born in Mullens, West Virginia, D'Antoni played college basketball at Marshall University from 1966 to 1970. He was the Thundering Herd's starting point guard from 1968 to 1970. He led the Herd with a 17.5 scoring average in 1968–69. In 1990, he was inducted into the Marshall University Athletics Hall of Fame. Ryan Taylor (basketball)
Ryan Taylor (born June 18, 1992) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Marshall Thundering Herd before playing a season in Iceland with Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur and a season in the CBA with the Indianapolis Blaze. College career Talyor joined Marshall in 2012 but redshirted his freshman year. He played 31 of 33 games in 2013–2014, starting 29 games and averaging 12.8 points and team leading 7.2 rebounds. In 2014–2015 he led Marshall in scoring and rebounding, with 14.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, and was selected to the All-Conference USA Third Team. Aleksa Nikolić ( sr-cyr, Алекса Николић; born March 31, 1995), is a Serbian professional basketball player who last played for Juventus Utena of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). He played college basketball for the Marshall Thundering Herd. Standing , he can play both guard positions, as well as small forward. College career Nikolić played for the Marshall Thundering Herd of the Conference USA (NCAA Division I) from 2014 to 2017. Nikolić appeared in all 32 games, including 25 starts in the 2014–15 season. He averaged 5.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game during the regular season.
