2017–18 Håndboldligaen
The 2017–18 Håndboldligaen, known as the ''888ligaen'' for sponsorship reasons, was the 82nd season of the Danish Handball League, Håndboldligaen, Denmark's premier handball league. Nordsjælland Håndbold was the promoted team from the previous year's Danish 1st Division (handball), 1st Division. Skjern Håndbold was declared Danish champion after they beat Bjerringbro-Silkeborg in the final. HC Midtjylland was declared bankrupt during the season, and it was thus administratively relegated to the 2nd Division, the third tier of Danish handball. Danish Handball League
The Herreligaen (men's league), formerly known as Herrehåndboldligaen (men's handball league), is the men's top Danish professional handball league. The winners of the Herreligaen are recognised as the Danish men's handball champions. The current champions are Aalborg Håndbold. Season The Herreligaen season consists of 14 teams, each playing 26 regular season games. The eight best teams of the regular season advance to further games, where they are divided into two groups of four teams each. No. 1 and 2 from the regular season start with 2 points. No. 3 and 4 start with 1 point, while no. 5-8 start with no points. After these six games the two top teams in each group will play semifinals. No. 1 from one group is up against no. 2 from the other. The winners will meet in finals, while the losers will play against each other for the bronze medal. 1st Division is the name of the second highest handball league for both genders. The top-ranking teams each wins Promotion and relegation, promotion to Danish Women's Handball League, Damehåndboldligaen and Danish Handball League, while the bottom finishers get Promotion and relegation, relegated to the Danish 2nd Divisions. The men's division consists of 14 teams that meet each opponent once away and once at home, while the women's division consists of 12 teams. JYSK Arena, or Silkeborg-Hallerne, is a complex of indoor sports arenas in Silkeborg, Denmark used for several sports, but primarily handball. NRGi Arena
Ceres Arena (formerly NRGi Arena) is an indoor arena mainly used for handball matches and public events in Aarhus, Denmark. The arena was opened in 2001 and has a capacity of 5,001 spectators (4,394 seats). It is part of the Aarhus Sports Park, which also includes Aarhus Stadium. Ceres Arena is home to Danish Women's Handball League team Aarhus United and Danish Men's Handball League team Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold. The arena functioned as the main venue in the 2002 European Women's Championships, hosting the final. The arena was also used for basketball, by Bakken Bears, but because of the high price for renting the arena, Bakken Bears moved back to there old home Vejlby-Risskov Hallen. Gigantium
The Gigantium (called ''Sparekassen Danmark Arena'' for sponsoring reasons), in Aalborg, Denmark, is a large, rentable faire building, which hosts a large variety of concerts, markets and exhibitions, among other things. It has a capacity of 5,500 people. For concerts, the capacity is 8,500 people. In addition, there is an ice rink/arena for training purposes, a swimming pool and an athletics hall within the sports complex. The main arena building was severely damaged by a fire on 5 July 2017. Ribe-Esbjerg HH is a handball club based in the town of Ribe in Jutland, Denmark. The club was founded on 1 May 1973 and was the result of a merger between Ribe Håndboldklub and Sædding Guldager Idrætsforening. Ribe-Esbjerg HH competes in the men's Danish Handball League. History In the first season in the clubs history, they won their section of the Danish 2. Division and was thus promoted to the 1. division. Mors-Thy Håndbold is a handball club, based in Nykøbing Mors and Thisted, Denmark. Currently, Mors-Thy Håndbold competes in the men's Danish Handball League. The home arena of the team is Sparekassen Thy Arena and Thyhallen in Thisted. It is the only professional sports team on Mors. Skanderborg Håndbold
Skanderborg Håndbold, previously known as Vrold-Skanderborg Håndboldklub is a women's handball club based in Skanderborg in Jutland, Denmark. The club has over 650 members, which makes it one of the biggest handball clubs in Denmark and the biggest in Jutland. In 2021, Aarhus Håndbold merged with Skanderborg Håndbold's men's team, and they changed the name to Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold. History The club was founded in 1982 and was the result of a merger between Stilling-Skanderborg and Vrold-Skanderborg Handball Club. The men's team played in the top division Herrehåndboldligaen from the 2011-12 season until the merger with Aarhus GF Håndbold in 2021. Aarhus Håndbold
Aarhus Håndbold was a handball club from Aarhus, Denmark. The club was founded in 2001 originally under the name Århus GF, as an extension of the traditional Aarhus clubs AGF, Brabrand IF, VRI and Århus KFUM/YMCA / Hasle. AGF chose in 2010 to withdraw from the superstructure, and the club was renamed from AGF Håndbold to Aarhus Håndbold. The home arena of Aarhus Håndbold was Ceres Arena. The club struggled in the last year of its existence with economic problems and in April 2021 the club was declared bankrupt. In connection with this all the players from Aarhus Håndbold were released and Århus Håndbold merged with the neighbors from Skanderborg Håndbold under the name Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold. In June 2023 AGF re-entered the project and bought 50% of the shares in the club, and the club was renamed Skanderborg AGF Håndbold. In 2013 they won the Danish Super Cup.
