2017–18 Belgian Basketball Cup
The 2017–18 Belgian Basketball Cup () was the 64th edition of the national cup competition for men's basketball in Belgium. The season started on 26 September 2017 and ended on 11 March 2018 with the final. Oostende won its sixth straight cup title. Format Teams from the Basketball League Belgium Division I, the Top Division 1 and Top Division 2 (the first three divisions in Belgian basketball) compete in the competition. In the first round teams from the Top Division I and 2 play in 12 groups. From the second round, teams from the BLB Division I enter the competition. In the second round, the quarter- and semi-finals a double legged format is used. When a Division I team faces off against a team from a lower league, no second leg is played. The Final is decided by a single game. The 2016–17 Belgian Basketball Cup season, for sponsorship reasons bpost cup, was the 63rd edition of the national cup competition for men's basketball in Belgium. The final was played on 19 February 2017 between Limburg United and defending cup holders Oostende. Oostende won its 18th title and its fourth Cup in a row. Melco Ieper
Basket SKT Ieper is a basketball team based in Ypres (Ieper), Belgium. For a long time, it was known as ''Athlon Ieper'' and played in the First Division. From 2008 the team name was Melco Ieper. In 2020 they had a fusion with the female basketball club Blue Cats. Together, their new name is Basket SKT Ieper. History First clubs in Ypres The first Ypres club was founded on October 14, 1946 with registration number 230, as '' Basket Ball Club Ypres''. In 1952 a second Ypres club emerged as' ''JSP Ieper'' (Youth Sint-Pieter, registration number 637).''Athlon Ieper'' was founded on June 14, 1954 as''Athletics and basketball association of the Picañol company'', with registration number 1075 and became the third club in the town. Overtime (sports)
Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament and replays are not allowed. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ " sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game. Antwerp Giants, named Windrose Giants Antwerp for sponsorship reasons, is a Belgian professional basketball club based in Antwerp. Their home arena is Lotto Arena. The club plays in the BNXT League, the highest tier of Belgian basketball. The club was created from the merger of Sobabee and Racing Mechelen. Then named Racing Basket Antwerpen, it was renamed Antwerp Giants in 2005. Antwerp has won the Belgian championship once, in 2000. The team has won five Belgian Cups and two Belgian Supercups. History In 1995, Sobabee from Antwerp and Racing Mechelen merged into ''Racing Basket Antwerpen''. The club made its debut on the highest stage in Belgium in the 1998–99 season. Antwerp was one of the top 3 teams until 2001. In the 1999–2000 season the club won its first national championship as ''Telindus Antwerpen'', by beating Oostende 3–1 in the Finals.
