2017–18 Bangladesh Premier League
The Bangladesh Premier League 2017, also known as BPL Season 5 or AKS BPL 2017 Powered by Shah Cement (for sponsorship reasons), was the fifth season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the top level professional Twenty20 cricket franchise league in Bangladesh. The competition was organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and features seven teams from seven different cities. The season began on 4 November, and ended on 12 December 2017, with the defending champion, Dhaka Dynamites played against newbies Surma Sixers Sylhet, Sylhet Sixers in the first game at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Barisal Bulls were excluded from the tournament, after failing financial terms and conditions. This year, Pakistani players, except retired and non-centrally-contracted were unavailable in the tournament till 17 November due to their domestic cricket league. Bangladesh Cricket Board
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (; abbreviated as BCB), formerly known as Bangladesh Cricket Control Board, is the governing body of cricket in Bangladesh. It became an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1977, and a List of International Cricket Council members#Full Members, full member on 26 June 2000. Sylhet Sixers
Sylhet Strikers () is a professional cricket franchise based in Sylhet, Bangladesh, competing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The team made its debut in the inaugural 2012 Bangladesh Premier League. Initially owned by Sylhet Sports Limited under the leadership of former Bangladesh Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, the team’s ownership later passed to his son, Shahed Muhith, who became the chairman. For the sixth edition of the BPL, the franchise appointed former Pakistani cricketer Waqar Younis as head coach, with international cricketer David Warner named as captain. However, Warner was forced to step down due to injury, and former Bangladesh national team all-rounder Alok Kapali took over as captain. Khulna Titans
Khulna Tigers () is a franchise Twenty20 cricket team representing the Khulna division in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a Twenty20 cricket tournament. The franchise was owned by Gemcon Sports and was founded in 2016 as a replacement for the Khulna Royal Bengals who had participated in the first two seasons of the BPL. The Tigers use Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium for home games. During the 2016/17 season, the team was captained by Mahmudullah Riyad and was coached by Stuart Law. Comilla Victorians
Comilla Victorians () is a Bangladeshi professional men's cricket team which competed in the Bangladesh Premier League, a T-20 cricket league. The team is based in Cumilla, a city in eastern Bangladesh. Comilla Victorians won the BPL title 4 times. The team is currently owned by Nafisa Kamal, the daughter of AHM Mustafa Kamal, the former Minister of Finance under the Sheikh Hasina government. On 16 November 2019, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced themselves as the sponsor of the team and it was renamed to Cumilla Warriors. The team were replaced by Comilla Victorians after the previous owners returned ahead of the 2021–22 Bangladesh Premier League. Chittagong Vikings
Chittagong Kings () is a franchise cricket team which participates in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The franchise is based in Chattogram. Franchise history The Chattogram franchise joined the BPL as one of its original members in 2012, which was owned by SQ sports. After SQ Sports was charged with fixing and delaying payments to players, it was banned from participating in cricketing activities so were all the other franchisees owners for corruption scandals. It appeared in the final in 2013 under the captaincy of Mahmudullah Riyad and coaching of Khaled Mahmud. The team changed its name from Chittagong Kings after a change of ownership in 2015. And Chittagong Vikings was founded 1 December 2015. It was owned by DBL Sports Limited, a concern of DBL Group. DBL Sports Limited terminated the ownership of the team on 29 July 2019.
