2017–18 Baltic Basketball League
The 2017–18 Triobet Baltic Basketball League was the 14th and the last season of the Baltic Basketball League and the third under the title sponsorship of Triobet. The season began on 24 October 2017 and concluded on 5 April 2018. Last year's finalist BC Pieno žvaigždės, Pieno žvaigždės defeated BK Jūrmala, Jūrmala in the finals to win their first Baltic Basketball League title. Competition format In this edition 14 teams took part. They were divided into two groups of seven teams where, after a double-legged round-robin, the best four of each group will qualify to the quarterfinals. Kazakh team BC Barsy Atyrau, Barsy Atyrau and Belarusian BC Tsmoki-Minsk, Tsmoki-Minsk II played all their matches abroad. Midway through the season BC Vytautas, Vytautas withdrew from the league due to them forfeiting two different games in this league for different reasons. The 2016–17 Triobet Baltic Basketball League was the 13th season of the Baltic Basketball League and the second under the title sponsorship of Triobet. Overview This season’s competition includes 7 teams from Estonia, 6 teams from Latvia, 3 teams from Lithuania and one team from Kazakhstan and Belarus, which will play all their games away. For the regular season the teams were divided into two groups of seven teams and competed in a round-robin competition system, with team facing each of their opponents twice. The teams qualified for the eighth-finals based on their ranking after the regular season. LaMelo LaFrance Ball ( ; born August 22, 2001) is an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Heiko Rannula (born 28 July 1983) is an Estonian professional basketball coach and former player, who is currently a head coach for Legia Warsaw of the Polish Basketball League (PLK), and for Estonian National Team. Playing career Heiko Rannula graduated from Tartu Karlova Gymnasium in 2001. He started training with Jüri Neissaare. He has played in the Estonian youth (U16) and junior (U20) teams. He has also been a member of the Estonian National team. Rannula is the Estonian youth champion in the U16 and U20 age classes. He became the Estonian champion with Tartu team in 2001 and 2004, in addition to winning the Estonian Cup in 2002 and 2004. He played for several Estonian basketball clubs. Aivar Kuusmaa (born 12 June 1967) is an Estonian basketball coach and former professional basketball player who played mostly at the shooting guard position. He won the USSR Premier Basketball League in 1991 as a member of the KK Kalev, Tallinn Kalev basketball team. Kuusmaa mostly played in Estonia, but he also spent three seasons in Greece, with Panathinaikos BC, Panathinaikos and one season in Belgium, with Liege Basket. Also, during the service in the Red Army, Soviet Army, Kuusmaa was stationed in Latvian SSR and played in the local army sports club Rīgas ASK. After retiring in 2005 he has been coaching BC Kalev/Cramo (2005–2007 & 2010–2012), TTÜ KK (2007–2010) and Rapla KK, AVIS Utilitas Rapla (2014–2018).
