The Angolan Men's Basketball League, (in Portuguese: ''Campeonato Nacional de Basquetebol em Séniores Masculinos''), for sponsorship reasons known as the Unitel Basket, is the top tier men's basketball league in Angola. C.D. Primeiro de Agosto (basketball), Primeiro de Agosto has been the most successful club in Angola with a total of 19 titles won, followed by Atlético Petróleos de Luanda (basketball), Petro de Luanda who have 17 championships. The champions of each Unitel Basket season qualify directly for the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Sponsorship names In 2014, the Angolan Basketball Federation signed a sponsoring deal with Angola's Banco de Investimento e Crédito, which it claimed to be more favourable than the one with Banco Africano de Investimentos. Gerson Gonçalves
Gerson Henriques Gonçalves (born 29 March 1996), also known as Lukeny, is an Angolan basketball player for AMSB of the French LNB Pro B. He played nine seasons for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League, where he was a two-time league MVP winner (2019 and 2022) and a BAL champion in 2024. Professional career Angola Gonçalves played for Petro de Luanda in the 2015 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup. He participated in the 2018–19 Africa Basketball League where he averaged 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Gonçalves was named the MVP of the Angolan League in 2019, after winning his second title with Petro. It competes at the local level, in the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and in the BIC Basket, Angola National Basketball Championship. The Universidade Lusíada de Angola, also known as U.L.A. was an Angolan semi-professional basketball team which is named after its major sponsor, the Angolan Lusíadas University. The men's team made its debut at the Angolan premier basketball league (BAI Basket) at the 2006–07 season whereas the women's team was established in February 2014 as it took over Juventude de Viana's women's basketball team, following the latter's disbanding.
