2017 Speedway European Championship
The 2017 Speedway European Championship season was the fifth season of the Speedway European Championship (SEC) era, and the 17th UEM Individual Speedway European Championship. It was the fifth series under the promotion of One Sport Lts. of Poland. The championship was won by Andžejs Ļebedevs, who claimed the title for the first time. Despite not winning a round, he finished in second place three times, leaving him seven points clear of Russia's Artem Laguta in the final standings. Last year's runner-up Václav Milík finished third, while Krzysztof Kasprzak and Andreas Jonsson secured the final spots in the 2018 line-up by finishing forth and fifth respectively. Qualification For the 2017 season, 15 permanent riders were joined at each SEC Final by one wild card and two track reserves. Andžejs Ļebedevs
Andžejs Ļebedevs (born 4 November 1994) is a Latvian speedway rider. Career Ļebedevs finished in 16th place during the 2022 Speedway World Championship, after securing 26 points during the 2022 Speedway Grand Prix. He was selected as a reserve for the 2023 Speedway Grand Prix. Also in 2022, he helped Wilki Krosno win the 2022 1.Liga. Martin Smolinski
Martin Smolinski (born 6 December 1984, in Munich, West Germany) is a former international motorcycle speedway and Grasstrack rider from Germany. He is eight times champion of Germany. Career Smolinksi began riding in his natiove Germany for MSC Olching. He became the German junior champion in 2003 and after reaching the final 2003 Speedway Under-21 World Championship he signed for Coventry Bees in England. Coventry retained him for the following two seasons and his form improved over the next two seasons. In 2006, he signed for his first Polish club Rybnik and in 2007 became the German Champion for the first time. Also in 2007, he won the league and cup double with Coventry during the 2007 Elite League speedway season. Jacob Thorssell
Jacob Thorssell (born 24 July 1993) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. He is a two times Swedish national champion. Career Thorssell joined Wolverhampton Wolves in the Elite League for the 2012 season, as a replacement for Pontus Aspgren who had picked up an injury. After impressing at Wolves, Thorssell was announced in the permanent line-up for the 2013 season. After continuing to impress in 2013 and also in 2014 Thorssell made the step up to being one of Wolverhampton's three heat leaders for the 2015 season, and was the first rider to be announced in their team. He remained at Wolves for eight seasons until the end of the 2019 season. From 2021 to 2022 he rode for Opole in the Polish leagues and since 2019 has ridden for Dackarna in his home country. Jarosław Hampel
Jarosław "Jarek" Hampel (; born 17 April 1982 in Łódź, Poland) is a Polish Speedway rider. He was a participant of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix in 2007 and 2010. He received his speedway license in 1998 with the Polish team Polonia Piła, although he first started racing on a mini-track in Pawłowice, close to the city of Leszno. In 2010 and 2013, he won silver medals in the Speedway World Championships ( Grand Prix Series), and in 2011, he won the bronze medal. David Bellego (born 15 May 1993 in Marmande) is a French motorcycle speedway rider, who competes in Grasstrack, Longtrack and Speedway. He is four times champion of France. Timo Lahti
Timo Lahti (born 16 July 1992) is a speedway rider from Finland. Career Lahti started his British career riding for the Eastbourne Eagles in 2011. He became the national champion of Finland after winning the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship in 2012. After a total of four seasons at Eastbourne he left after the 2014 season. He won a further five national championships from 2015 to 2019 consecutively before being deposed by Tero Aarnio. Before the 2017 win he had returned to British speedway by riding in the top tier for the Poole Pirates in the SGB Premiership 2017. Andriy Karpov
Andriy Karpov (born 16 January 1987) also spelt Andriej Karpov is a motorcycle speedway rider from the Ukraine. Career Karpov came to prominence when competing the Polish leagues, initially for the Ukrainian teams in Polish Speedway Second League but then in the Ekstraliga for Rzeszów in 2006. It was during 2006 that he won a silver medal at the European Individual Speedway Junior Championship. He quickly gained full international caps for the Ukraine national speedway team and represented them in the European Pairs Speedway Championship.
