2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships
The 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was hosted in the city of Kampala, Uganda's capital. This 42nd edition was held on 26 March 2017. The venue was Kampala Airport, commonly known as Kololo airstrip, or officially, the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. A few modifications were made to make the track challenging. Schedule In keeping with past events, all five races, including the newly introduced mixed relay, were held in the afternoon. The first event was the inaugural mixed relay race, which was won by Kenya. The junior races preceded the senior races, and the senior men's event concluded the programme. Jacob Kiplimo
Jacob Kiplimo (born 14 November 2000) is a Ugandan long-distance runner. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Kiplimo won a bronze medal in the 10,000 m events. Kiplimo won gold medals in the 5000 m and 10,000 m events at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and he won a silver and gold medal at the 2019 and 2023 World Cross Country Championships, respectively. He was also the winner of the 2020 World Half Marathon, and is the current world record holder in the half marathon, which he set in 2025 with a time of 56:42. At age 15, he represented his country at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the youngest ever Olympian for Uganda. He was the 2017 World Cross Country junior champion. Beatrice Chepkoech Sitonik (born 6 July 1991) is a Kenyan Long-distance running, long-distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She won gold medals at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, 2019 World Championships and 2018 African Championships in Athletics, 2018 African Championships and silver medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, 2023 World Championships. 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships – Mixed Relay
The Mixed relay race at the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was held at the Kampala in Uganda, on March 26, 2017. It was the first time this event was held at the World Cross Country Championships. 13 teams took part in the inaugural race. A team made by Refugee Athletes were set to compete, but they were unable to travel on time. The exact length of the race was 7,858 m (2,023m first lap, two laps of 2,000 m and a final lap of 1,835m). Complete results for individuals. Celliphine Chepteek Chespol (born 23 March 1999) is a Kenyan track and field athlete, specialising in steeplechase running. In winning the 3000 metres steeplechase at 2017 Prefontaine Classic, her time of 8:58.78 was the second fastest of all time. Since she was 18 years 64 days old, it was also the world junior record. The race is more impressive since she lost her shoe at the water jump with more than a lap to go during the race. Hawi Feysa (born 1 February 1999) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner specializing in marathon and road races, as well as track and cross country events. Letesenbet Gidey ( Tigrinya: ለተሰንበት ግደይ, born 20 March 1998) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. In the 10,000 metres, she is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist, 2019 World silver medallist, and 2022 World champion.
