2017 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Giant Slalom
The women's giant slalom in the 2017 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of nine events, including the World Cup finals in Aspen, Colorado (USA). Tessa Worley of France had never won a season-long championship in the World Cup but this season had reached the giant slalom podium seven times, including three wins, and held an 80-point lead over runner-up Mikaela Shiffrin of the US in the standings before the finals. In the finals, Worley finished fifth (one spot ahead of Shiffrin) and became a first-time discipline champion. The season was interrupted by the 2017 World Ski Championships, which were held from 6–20 February in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The women's giant slalom was held on 16 February. Giant Slalom
Giant slalom (GS) is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding competitive discipline. It involves racing between sets of poles ("gates") spaced at a greater distance from each other than in Slalom skiing, slalom but less than in Super-G. Giant slalom and slalom make up the technical events in alpine ski racing. This category separates them from the speed events of Super-G and Downhill (ski competition), downhill. The technical events are normally composed of two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run. Course The vertical drop for a GS course must be for men, and for women. The number of gates in this event is 56–70 for men and 46–58 for women. The number of direction changes in a GS course equals 11–15% of the vertical drop of the course in metres, 13–18% for children. Petra Vlhová (born 13 June 1995) is a Slovak FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cup Alpine skiing, alpine ski racer who specialises in the technical events of Slalom skiing, slalom and giant slalom. Ragnhild Mowinckel
Ragnhild Mowinckel (born 12 September 1992) is a retired Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer, representing the club SK Rival. Career Born in Molde, Møre og Romsdal, Mowinckel won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in 2012 in the giant slalom and super combined as well as bronze in super-G. Earlier that season in January, she made her World Cup debut in a slalom race at Zagreb. Mowinckel collected her first World Cup points with a 25th place in giant slalom in Schladming in March. Manuela Mölgg
Manuela Mölgg (born 28 August 1983) is a retired alpine ski racer from Italy, a specialist in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Biography Born in Bruneck, South Tyrol, Mölgg made her World Cup debut at age 17 in December 2000 and gained her first podium in November 2004. She has 14 World Cup podium finishes and appeared in two Olympics and six World Championships. At the 2009 Alpine World Ski Championships in Val-d'Isère Mölgg took the lead in the slalom after the first run but was disqualified from the second after missing the final gate of the course, having kept her lead at the intermediate checkpoints before the finish line. Ana Drev
Ana Drev (born 6 August 1985) is a Slovenian World Cup alpine ski racer. She specializes in the giant slalom and started her first European Cup race at age 15 on February 24, 2001, in Rogla, Slovenia. Drev made her World Cup debut in October 2001 at age 16. She debuted at the Winter Olympic Games in 2006, at age 20, finishing 9th in giant slalom. In season 2016 she finished as seventh in giant slalom ranking, achieving two podiums in World Cup, the first of her career. Ranked among the greatest Slovenian giant slalom skiers, Drev's career was plagued by health problems and instability in her national team, which didn't allow her to live up to her potentiality. Viktoria Rebensburg

Marta Bassino (born 27 February 1996) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. She competes in all disciplines, with a focus in giant slalom, in which she has six World Cup wins. Biography Born in Cuneo, Piedmont, Bassino lives in Borgo San Dalmazzo. At the Junior World Championships in 2014, Bassino won the gold medal in the giant slalom on her eighteenth birthday in late February. Lara Gut-Behrami (; ; born 27 April 1991) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who competes in all disciplines and specializes in the speed events of downhill and Super-G. She won the gold medal in the super-G event at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. With 48 World Cup victories to her name across 3 disciplines, she is one of the all-time greats in Alpine skiing history.
