2016–17 Texas Southern Tigers Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team represented Texas Southern University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Tigers, led by fifth year head coach Mike Davis, played their home games at the Health and Physical Education Arena in Houston, Texas as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 23–12, 16–2 in SWAC play to win the regular season SWAC championship. They defeated Alabama State, Grambling State, and Alcorn State to be champions of the SWAC tournament. They earned the SWAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the first round to North Carolina. Previous season The Tigers finished the 2015–16 season 18–15, 16–2 in SWAC play to win the regular season SWAC championship. Mike Davis (basketball Coach)
Michael Davis (born September 15, 1960) is an American basketball coach at the University of Memphis. Prior to that he was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Detroit Mercy, a position he held from 2018 to 2024. Davis also served as the head men's basketball coach at Indiana University Bloomington from 2000 to 2006, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) from 2006 to 2012, and Texas Southern University from 2012 to 2018. Playing career Davis, an Alabama native, spent his collegiate playing career with the University of Alabama Alabama Crimson Tide, Crimson Tide after earning the state's Alabama Mr. Basketball, Mr. Basketball honor in 1979. In his first season, he played for the legendary C. M. Newton and then spent his final three years playing under another coaching legend, Winfrey Sanderson, Wimp Sanderson. The 2015–16 Southern Jaguars basketball team represented Southern University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Jaguars, led by fifth year head coach Roman Banks, played their home games at the F. G. Clark Center and were members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 22–13, 11–7 in SWAC play to finish in fourth place. They defeated Alabama State, Texas Southern, and Jackson State to be champions of the SWAC tournament. They earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the First Four to Holy Cross. Lake Station is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The population was 13,235 at the 2020 census. History Initially, the site of modern Lake Station was the starting point of two indigenous trails leading to Fort Dearborn.Workers of the Writers' Program of the Works Project Administration, 1939.
