2016–17 Tennessee Volunteers Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Tennessee Volunteers basketball team represented the University of Tennessee in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Volunteers were led by second-year head coach Rick Barnes. The team played its home games at Thompson–Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee, as a member of the Southeastern Conference. They finished the season 16–16, 8–10 in SEC play to finish in a tie for ninth place. They lost in the second round of the SEC tournament to Georgia. Previous season The Vols posted a record of 15–19, 6–12 in SEC play, during the 2015–16 season and finished in 12th place. Rick Barnes
Richard Barnes (born July 17, 1954) is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach at the University of Tennessee. He is also known for coaching at the University of Texas from 1998 to 2015, taking the team to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 16 of his 17 seasons—including 14 straight from 1999 to 2012—as well as a Final Four appearance in 2003. Barnes also previously coached at George Mason University, Providence College, and Clemson University. He has an overall record of 28–26 (.519) in the NCAA tournament (including 19–16 while at Texas). Early life Barnes was born on July 17, 1954, and grew up in Hickory, North Carolina. He is a 1977 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College where he was a member of the men's basketball team. The Ensworth School
The Ensworth School is a private school located on two separate campuses in Nashville, Tennessee. The original campus, with grades kindergarten (previously referred to as "pre-first") through eighth, opened in 1958 with 152 students. Yves Pons (born 7 May 1999) is a Haitian-born French professional basketball player who last played for Bàsquet Girona of the Liga ACB. He played college basketball for the Tennessee Volunteers. Early life and career Pons was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and spent three and a half years with his biological mom. John Fulkerson
John Michael Fulkerson (born April 29, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for Dziki Warsaw of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). High school career In his first two years of high school, Fulkerson played basketball for Dobyns-Bennett High School in his hometown of Kingsport, Tennessee, before transferring to Christ School (North Carolina), Christ School in Arden, North Carolina to gain more exposure. Grant Dean Williams (born November 30, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Williams played college basketball for the Tennessee Volunteers basketball, Tennessee Volunteers.
