2016–17 Superliga (men's Handball)
The 2016–17 Superliga was the 61st season of the Polish Superliga, the top men's handball league in Poland. A total of fourteen teams contested this season's league, which began on 9 September 2016 and concluded on 27 May 2017. Vive Tauron Kielce won their 14th title of the Polish Champions. Format The competition format for the 2016–17 season consisted of 2 groups of seven teams each playing a total of 26 matches, half at home and half away, with the top 3 teams of each group qualifying directly for the quarterfinals. The teams ranked 4th and 5th play for a place in the quarterfinals. Regular season *A victory over a team of the same group add 1 extra point. Polish Superliga
The Polish Superliga, officially known as the Orlen Superliga due to its sponsorship by Orlen, is the top men's handball league in Poland. It is currently a 14 teams league, played from September to May. The competition was founded in 1956 under the name ''I Liga'' and changed its name to ''Ekstraklasa'' in 1998. Since 2010, it is named ''Superliga''. MKS Zagłębie Lubin is a men's handball club from Lubin, Poland, that plays in the Superliga. History The club was founded in 1967 under the name Górnik Lubin. His first coach was Szymon Kanigowski. The team reached the Polish top division for the first time at the end of the 1990/1991 season, already under the name Zagłębie Lubin. The team won the Polish Cup in the 1992/1993 season, defeating SPR Chrobry Głogów and Wybrzeże Gdańsk in the final four and drawing with KS Warszawianka. SPR Chrobry Głogów
SPR Chrobry Głogów is a men's handball club from Głogów, Poland, that plays in the Superliga. History In 1961, thanks to Henryk Tryka and Ryszard Matuszak, the handball era began in Głogów. In 1968, the team was promoted to the second division. In 1973, the team coached by Ryszard Matuszak achieved third place in the second league.
