The 2016–17 season was Plymouth Argyle F.C., Plymouth Argyle's sixth consecutive season in EFL League Two, League Two and their 131st year in existence. Along with competing in League Two, the club also participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, League Cup and EFL Trophy, League Trophy. The season covers the period from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017. Plymouth Argyle F
Plymouth ( ) is a port city and unitary authority in Devon, South West England. It is located on Devon's south coast between the rivers Plym and Tamar, about southwest of Exeter and southwest of London. It is the most populous city in Devon. Plymouth's history extends back to the Bronze Age, evolving from a trading post at Mount Batten into the thriving market town of Sutton, which was formally re-named as Plymouth in 1439 when it was made a borough. The settlement has played a significant role in English history, notably in 1588 when an English fleet based here defeated the Spanish Armada, and in 1620 as the departure point for the Pilgrim Fathers to the New World. During the English Civil War, the town was held by the Parliamentarians and was besieged between 1642 and 1646. Tavistock ( ) is an ancient stannary and market town and civil parish in the West Devon district, in the county of Devon, England. It is situated on the River Tavy, from which its name derives. At the 2011 census, the three electoral wards (North, South and South West) had a population of 13,028. The town traces its recorded history back to at least 961 when Tavistock Abbey, whose ruins lie in the centre of the town, was founded. Its most famous son is Sir Francis Drake. Louis John Rooney (born 28 September 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Torpoint Athletic. St Blazey () is a small town in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Ben Purrington (born 20 May 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays as a left back, left wing-back, left midfielder or left winger for club Exeter City. Career Plymouth Argyle Purrington was born in Exeter, Devon. He joined the Plymouth Argyle youth academy in September 2005 when he was nine. He signed his first professional contract in May 2013. James Christopher Spencer (born 13 December 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays for Curzon Ashton. A product of the Huddersfield Town academy, he spent much of his career with the club away on loan and later played for English Football League clubs Notts County, Cambridge United, Plymouth Argyle and Mansfield Town. David Goodwillie
David Goodwillie (born 28 March 1989) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Glasgow United. Born in Stirling, Goodwillie came through the Dundee United youth system and he won the SPFA and SFWA Young Player of the Year awards for the 2010–11 season. Jordan Michael Slew (born 7 September 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Southport. Born in Sheffield, Slew began his footballing career at Sheffield United's academy in 2006, joining the club at the age of 11.
