2016–17 Liga Alef
The 2016–17 Liga Alef season was the 8th season as third tier since its re-alignment in 2009 and the 75th season of third-tier football in Israel. The clubs which were ranked 1st in each division promoted to Liga Leumit. The clubs which were ranked between 2nd to 5th places in each division competed in a promotion play-offs, in which the winners, advanced to the final round against the 14th placed club in Liga Leumit. At the bottom, the bottom two clubs in each division were all automatically relegated to Liga Bet, whilst the two clubs which were ranked in 14th place in each division, entered a promotion/relegation play-offs. Liga Alef
Liga Alef () is the third tier of the Israeli football league system. It is divided into two regional divisions, north and south. History League football began in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef. The 1952–53 season was also not played and Liga Alef resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division. In the summer of 1976, restructuring saw the creation of Liga Artzit as a new second tier, and the second demotion of Liga Alef, as it became the third division. Hapoel (, ) is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. 2017–18 Liga Bet
The 2017–18 Liga Bet season was the 62nd season of fourth tier football in Israel. Changes from last season Team changes Promotion and relegation * To replace the folded Hapoel F.C. Karmiel Safed, Tzeirei Tamra was promoted from Liga Gimel, as the best second-placed team in the northern divisions. * In December 2016, the IFA was ordered to demote Maccabi Umm al-Fahm to Liga Gimel by FIFA due to an unpaid debt. The club, which finished 11th in North B division was demoted at the end of the season and was replaced initially by Maccabi Ironi Tamra, the second best second-placed team in the northern divisions of Liga Gimel. However, an appeal was lodged by Beitar Pardes Hanna, which was the best second-placed team in the Liga Gimel division which promote to North B division, claiming that only teams from the Jezre'el and Samaria division should be considered for promotion as replacement to Maccabi Umm al-Fahm. 2017–18 Liga Leumit
The 2017–18 Liga Leumit was the 19th season as second tier since its re-alignment in 1999 and the 76th season of second-tier football in Israel. A total of sixteen teams were contesting in the league, including twelve sides from the 2016–17 season, the two promoted teams from 2016–17 Liga Alef and the two relegated teams from 2016–17 Israeli Premier League.
