2016–17 Barnsley F.C. Season
The 2016–17 season saw Barnsley's return to the EFL Championship, Championship after two seasons in League One, following their relegation in the 2013–14 season. Along with the Championship, the club also competed in the FA Cup and League Cup. The season covered the period from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017. Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire. The town's population was 71,422 in 2021, while the wider borough had a population of 244,600 in the 2021 census. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, Barnsley is located on the M1 corridor between the cities of Sheffield to the south and Wakefield to the north. Nick Townsend
Nicholas Peter Townsend (born 1 November 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for National League club Eastleigh. He is a Antigua and Barbuda international. Townsend began his career with Birmingham City, but never appeared for their first team. He spent time on loan with Conference North club Oxford City and Lincoln City of the Conference Premier before joining Championship club Barnsley, initially on loan, in 2015. Angus Lees MacDonald (born 15 October 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Exeter City. Career MacDonald was born in Winchester, Hampshire. He started his career in the Academy at Reading and spent time on loan at Salisbury City during his scholarship before signing his first professional contract in June 2011. In November 2011, MacDonald joined Conference South club Basingstoke Town on loan, making his debut in a 2–1 FA Trophy win over Sutton United. FC Halifax Town is a professional association football club based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. Marc Roberts (born 26 July 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Barnsley. Roberts began his career in non-league football, with Wakefield, Worksop Town, Buxton and FC Halifax Town, and was capped for England C, the team that represents England at semi-professional level.
