2016–17 Ascenso MX Season
The 2016–17 Ascenso MX season is a two-part competition: Apertura 2016 began on 15 July 2016 and Clausura 2017. Ascenso MX is the second-tier football league of Mexico. All Ascenso MX teams except UAEM, U. de C., Tampico Madero, Correcaminos, Zacatepec and Sonora, will participate in Copa MX. The fixtures were announced on 9 June 2016. Changes from the previous season * Necaxa were promoted to Liga MX. * Sinaloa were relegated from Liga MX. * U. de C. will join from Segunda División de México (due to stadium requirements failed in 2015, approved in 2016). * UAEM were promoted from Segunda División de México * Tampico Madero were promoted to Ascenso MX as an expansion team, will take the open spot vacated by Atlético San Luis. * Atlético San Luis were dissolved and may return to play next season. Ascenso MX
Ascenso MX, also known as Ascenso BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, was a professional association football league in Mexico and the second level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Primera División A de México (1994–2009) and also as Liga de Ascenso (2009–2012). The champions of the competition was promoted to Liga MX (top level), and the bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier (third level). In 2012, the league rebranded its name and competition format as Ascenso MX, the major changes (clubs do not need a FMF certification to be promoted and that the competition no longer used group stages). Ascenso MX was replaced by Liga de Expansión MX on April 17, 2020. The Estadio Miguel Alemán Valdés is a multi-use stadium in Celaya, Guanajuato. Mexico. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Club Celaya. Estadio Universitario BUAP (official name) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Ciudad Universitaria in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico. It is used by the Lobos de la BUAP, Lobos BUAP professional football team, currently playing in the Liga MX top flight of Mexican football. History The first stage of the stadium opened in 1999 and was used by Lobos de la BUAP, a professional football club that plays in the Ascenso MX. In 2007, the club moved because it did not meet the requirements of the Mexican Football Federation for an Ascenso MX home grounds; namely, it required expansion from 9,000 to at least 15,000 seats. The Estadio Olímpico Andrés Quintana Roo is a 18,844 seat stadium in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is the home field of Liga de Expansión MX, Expansión MX’s Cancún F.C., and was formerly the home field of Ascenso MX's Atlante F.C. The stadium was inaugurated on August 11, 2007.
