2016 Clarkson Cup
The 2016 Clarkson Cup was a women's ice hockey championship that was contested at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, the first contested on NHL ice, to determine the champion of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Held on March 13, 2016, the Calgary Inferno defeated the Canadiennes de Montreal 8-3 to claim their first title. Blayre Turnbull, Brianne Jenner, Jessica Campbell and Rebecca Johnston each scored twice. The first goal scored by an Inferno player was Rebecca Johnston while Blayre Turnbull was credited with the Cup winning goal. Goaltender Delayne Brian was recognized as the Most Valuable Player. Calgary Inferno
The Calgary Inferno (previously known as Team Alberta, nickname "Honeybadgers", during the 2011–12 season) was a women's ice hockey team that joined the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) for the 2011–12 CWHL season, 2011–12 season. The team played its home games at Joan Snyder Rink (Arena B) at WinSport Canada in Calgary, Alberta. After two seasons without an official name, in 2013 the team picked a moniker drawing from Calgary's National Hockey League franchise, the Calgary Flames, with whom they had a partnership. For the 2013-14 season, it was announced that all Inferno home-games would be streamed live by PCSN.tv. Hayley Wickenheiser
Hayley Wickenheiser (born August 12, 1978) is a Canadian former ice hockey player, physician and assistant general manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs. She was the first woman to play full-time professional men’s hockey in a position other than goalie. Wickenheiser was a member of Canada women's national ice hockey team for 23 years, from 1994 until announcing her retirement on January 13, 2017, and is the team's career points leader with 168 goals and 211 assists in 276 games. She represented Canada at the Winter Olympics five times, capturing four gold and one silver medal and twice being named tournament MVP, and one time at the Summer Olympics in softball, and is a seven-time winner of the world championships. Caroline Ouellette
Caroline Ouellette (born May 25, 1979) is a Canadian former ice hockey player and current associate head coach of the Concordia Stingers women's ice hockey program. She was a member of the Canadian national women's ice hockey team and a member of Canadiennes de Montreal in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Among her many accomplishments are four Olympic gold medals, 12 IIHF Women's World Championship medals (six gold, six silver), 12 Four Nations Cup medals (eight gold, four silver) and four Clarkson Cup championships. Ouellette is in the Top 10 in all-time NCAA scoring with 229 career points. 2015 Clarkson Cup
The 2015 Clarkson Cup was a women's ice hockey tournament that was contested in Markham, Ontario to determine the champion of the Canadian Women's Hockey League from March 4 to March 7, 2014. The Boston Blades defeated the Montreal Stars by a 3-2 tally in overtime to claim their second title. The tournament was played at Markham Centennial Centre. The overtime-winning goal was scored by Janine Weber, who became the first European player to score a Cup-winning goal. Weber's stick that she used to score the Cup-winning goal was donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Clarkson Cup
The Clarkson Cup () is an ice hockey trophy awarded to Canada's national women's champions. Commissioned by former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, the trophy was first unveiled in July 2006 when Clarkson ceremoniously presented it to the Canadian national women's team. Owing to a rights dispute with the artists who designed the trophy, it was not officially awarded until 2009, when it became, as intended, the award for the top women's club team. From 2012 to 2019, it was exclusively awarded to the winner of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). In Canada, it has been considered the women's equivalent of the Stanley Cup. The Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL; ) was a women's ice hockey league. Established in 2007 as a Canadian women's Senior ice hockey, senior league in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, and Ottawa, the league expanded into Alberta (2011) and internationally in the United States (2010) and China (2017) throughout its tenure. Delayne Brian
Delayne Brian (born July 24, 1990) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. Brian helped the Inferno capture the 2016 Clarkson Cup championship, where she was recognized as Playoff MVP. Playing career NCAA For three seasons, Brian competed with the Wayne State Warriors women's ice hockey program. In October 2010, made 26 saves in a 3–0 victory over St. Cloud State to earn her fifth career shutout. The following day, she had 39 saves in a 1–0 loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. In both games, Brian had a 0.50 goals-against average and a .985 save percentage. On October 16, 2010, Brian stopped 40 shots from Boston University. It was two shy of her single game career-high.
