The 2015–16 season is Sunderland's 137th season in existence, and their ninth consecutive season in the Premier League. Along with competing in the Premier League, the club also participated in the FA Cup and League Cup. The season covers the period from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016. On May 11 2016, Sunderland confirmed a tenth consecutive Premier League season with a 3–0 victory over Everton at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland () is a port city and metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear, England. It is a port at the mouth of the River Wear on the North Sea, approximately south-east of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is the most populous settlement in the Wearside conurbation and the second most populous settlement in North East England after Newcastle. John O'Shea
John Francis O'Shea (; born 30 April 1981) is an Irish professional football coach and former player who is currently assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland men's national team. He was known for his versatility in playing several defensive and midfield positions on either side of the pitch or the centre. Patrick John Miguel van Aanholt (; born 29 August 1990) is a Dutch professional Association football, footballer who plays as a Defender (association football)#Full-back, left-back for club Sparta Rotterdam. Billy Jones (born 24 March 1987) is an English former professional footballer who played as a right-back. Jones started his career at Crewe Alexandra and made his professional debut in October 2003 in a 3–0 win over Derby County. In professional sports, a free agent is a player or manager who is eligible to sign with other clubs or franchises; i.e., not under contract to any specific team. The term is also used in reference to a player who is under a contract at present but who is allowed to solicit offers from other teams.
