2015–16 Riksserien Season
The 2015–16 Riksserien season was the ninth season of the Swedish Women's Hockey League. The season began in September 2015 and ended in March 2016. It was the last season the league was known under the Riksserien name, changing to Svenska damhockeyligan (SDHL) the following year. League business The fee for carrying international players on team rosters was set at 3500kr per player for the season. In November 2015, two members of the far-right Sweden Democrats party proposed a motion in the Riksdag calling on the government to discuss financial support for women's hockey in Sweden. SDHL
The Swedish Women's Hockey League (), abbreviated SDHL, is the elite league for women's ice hockey in Sweden. It was established in 2007 as the by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and was renamed prior to the 2016–17 season. The league has ten teams and employs a system of promotion and relegation with the Nationella Damhockeyligan (NDHL). The unexpected withdrawal of Göteborg HC after playing only thirteen games of the 2022–23 season caused the number of teams to decrease to nine for the remainder of that season. Bodychecking was allowed for the 2022–23 season and goal cameras were introduced for the 2024–2025 season. Format When a game is tied after regulation, a sudden death overtime is played with only four skaters per team for maximum 10 minutes (or 20 minutes in the playoffs). Andrea Dalen
Andrea Schjelderup Dalen (born 19 June 1992) is a Norwegian ice hockey forward, playing in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) with Frölunda HC. She has been a member of the Norwegian national ice hockey team since 2008. Dalen holds the record for most goals in a single SDHL season, with 47 scored in the 2015–16 season, and is the seventh leading all-time points scorer in SDHL history. Playing career Dalen grew up playing on boys' teams in Ringerike, Norway and with women's teams of Vålerenga Ishockey. In 2009, she moved to Sweden to attend the ice hockey gymnasium of Linköping HC and play with the club's women's team in the (renamed Swedish Women's Hockey League in 2016). She led Linköping to a runner-up finish in the 2011 playoffs, while finishing as playoff scoring champion with seven points in four contests. Relegation Playoffs
Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a Season (sports), season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. Quarter-finals
A single-elimination knockout, or sudden-death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of a match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Each winner will play another in the next round, until the final match-up, whose winner becomes the tournament champion(s). IF Sundsvall Hockey
IF Sundsvall Hockey is a Sweden, Swedish ice hockey club based in Sundsvall. The club currently competes in Hockeyettan, the third tier of ice hockey in Sweden. Sundsvall plays their home matches at Gärdehov, with a capacity of 2,500. History The club was founded in 1896 as Tunadals Skid och Skridskoförening (''Tundal Ski and Skate Club''), which was active mainly in ice skating, but also participated in athletics (sport), athletics, association football, and orienteering. Participation in ice hockey wouldn't begin until 1952. In 1976, the club was reorganized as Sundsvall/Tunadals IF, which was later given its current name of IF Sundsvall Hockey in 1985. SDE Hockey
SDE Hockey are an ice hockey club in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). They play at Enebybergs Ishall in the Enebyberg community of Danderyd Municipality in Metropolitan Stockholm. History The club was formed in 2007 from the merger of the ice hockey sections of Stocksunds IF, Danderyds SK, and Enebybergs IF, the initials of which form the club's name. The club first earned promotion to the SDHL in 2014. They have stayed in the league since, although were forced to play in the relegation series in each of their first five SDHL seasons. Modo Hockey Dam
MoDo Hockey are an ice hockey team in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL), the top flight of women's hockey in Sweden. They play in Örnsköldsvik, in the historical province of Ångermanland on the east coast of Sweden, at the Hägglunds Arena. The club's farm team, Modo Hockey 2, plays in the North division of the Nationella Damhockeyligan (NDHL). History The women's section of Modo Hockey was formed in 1968 under the name of Modo AIK, playing the first ever organised women's hockey match in Sweden against Timrå IK in 1969. As there was no organised league, the match was only a training match. The club finished in third place in the first official Swedish Championship, held in the 1987–88 season, and finished in second place a year later. Leksands IF Dam
Leksands Idrottsförening, abbreviated Leksands IF or LIF, is a semi-professional ice hockey team in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). They play in Leksand, a town in the western-central Swedish province of Dalarna, at Tegera Arena. Until 2021, the organisation ran a second women's side, called Leksands IF Dam 2, which competed in the Damettan Västra. History The women's section of Leksands IF was founded in 1998. The 2008 season saw a leap in success for the club, as it earned promotion to the Riksserien, and saw Cecilia Östberg and Klara Myrén become the first two Leksands players to represent the Swedish national women's team. In 2012, the club finished in 7th place, and was forced to compete in the relegation playoffs, but managed to keep its place in the SDHL. Emma Eliasson
Emma Maria Josefin Eliasson (born 12 June 1989 in Kiruna, Sweden) is a Swedish retired ice hockey player. Considered one of the greatest Swedish defenders to ever play the game and known for her offensive abilities and physical style of play, she averaged over a point per game in her 10-year SDHL career, playing in five SDHL championship finals, and made over 230 appearances for the Swedish national team, winning a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Career Growing up in Kiruna, first in the Karesuando district and then in central Kiruna, Eliasson often played on boys' hockey teams. She has spoken out about her experience being ridiculed for being a girl playing a hockey, stating that she had to "show that she was better than them, or just simply run over them in order to win respect." Dick Axelsson
Dick Axelsson (born 25 April 1987) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey winger. He last played for Djurgårdens IF in Hockeyallsvenskan. He was drafted 62nd overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Axelsson won the Swedish Championship with Färjestads in 2009, and 2011 when he also made the Elitserien All-Star team. Playing career He was on loan with Färjestads BK of Elitserien from the Detroit Red Wings, he won the gold medal with the team in 2008–09. The Red Wings drafted him in the second round of the 2006 Draft, 62nd overall.
