2015–16 Pirveli Liga
2015–16 Pirveli Liga was the 27th season of the Georgia (country), Georgian Pirveli Liga. The season began on 2 September 2015 and finished on 21 May 2016. Format The tournament consisted of 18 teams. The first two teams went straight to the top of the Premier League, and the third place player had a Playoff with a 14th place finisher. However, due to a change of league format, eventually no team were promoted to the top division. Pirveli Liga
The Georgian Erovnuli Liga 2 ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა 2; ), organized since 1990 by the GFF, serves as the second division of professional football in Georgia. The league was introduced for the 2017 season under the current name as a part of reorganization process of the entire league system. It was formerly known as Pirveli liga (the First league). Structure There are ten clubs competing in Erovnuli Liga 2. During the season each club plays each other four times, twice at home and twice away. At the end of each season the winner gains automatic promotion and the bottom club is relegated. The runner-up and 3rd placed team participate in two-legged home and away play-off matches against the 9th and 8th placed clubs of Erovnuli Liga, respectively. In case two or more teams obtain an equal number of points, final standings are determined by an aggregate of the results between them. FC Chiatura
FC Magaroeli is a Georgian football club from Chiatura. Since the 2023 season they have been competing in Regionuli Liga, the fifth tier of Georgian football. The team has twice participated in the top tier. History Formed in 1923, Chiatura won the Georgian championship in 1975, and also clinched the domestic Cup title in 1978 and 1979. The club spent four seasons in the Soviet Second league. In 1992/93 season the club finished second in Pirveli Liga which paved the way for Umaglesi Liga in 1993/94. Magaroeli participated in the top flight also in 1997/98. Between 2004 and 2017 the club spent 13 successive seasons in Liga 2. At one point the club came close to another promotion. After winning the 2007–08 season with a 23-point margin, they beat Gagra on penalties in champions play-offs, although Chiatura eventually had to give up their Umaglesi Liga place after their failure to meet the criteria existing for top-flight clubs. FC Kolkheti Khobi ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი კოლხეთი ხობი) is a Georgian association football club based in the town of Khobi. Following the 2024 season they were relegated to Liga 3, the third tier of Georgian football. The club has spent four seasons in the top division. History Established in 1936, Kolkheti played many years in Georgian championship during the Soviet Union. In 1988 the club won the title and advanced to the Soviet Second league where the next year they finished in the 5th place. After 1990, when Umaglesi Liga was formed, Kolkheti participated in initial three seasons. Later they spent several years in the second and third divisions. The club returned to the top flight for 1999/2000 season only to finish at the bottom of the table. In 2007, the club rejoined Pirveli Liga, where they played for ten successive seasons. Khoni
Khoni ( ka, ხონი ) is a town in the Western Georgia (country), Georgian region (mkhare) of Imereti with a population of 7,756 as of January 2024. It is situated on the left bank of the Tskhenistsqali, Tskhenistsqali River in the north-west of Imereti, close to the border with the region of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and 266 km west of Georgia's capital Tbilisi. The town serves as an administrative centre of the Khoni District. Its economy is based on agriculture, particularly tea production. Khoni has been known as a lively trading locale and a see of the Eparchies of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Georgian Orthodox diocese since the Middle Ages. The town itself was founded in the 6th or 9th century and the still functioning St. George's Cathedral in downtown Khoni was constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries. FC Imereti ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი იმერეთი) is a Georgian association football club from the town of Khoni. They currently take part in Regionuli Liga, the fifth tier of the national league system. History Founded in 1936, Imereti spent many years in Georgian Soviet championship under the name ''Imereti Tsulukidze''. The second division has been the highest league they participated at any time since 1990. In 2014/15 Imereti, trained by manager Koba Zhorzhikashvili, won a tight competition against Sulori Vani for promotion to Pirveli Liga. The club pledged to become promotion chasers for the top flight and carry out some reconstruction of the stadium, which was regularly overcrowded during the matches. FC Gagra ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი გაგრა) is a Georgian football club, which competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the first tier of Georgian football. The club has its origins in Gagra, Abkhazia. It was founded in Tbilisi by former player and coach Goderdzi Chikhradze and his cousin in 2004 with a plan to move the club to Gagra in the end, but due to the ongoing Abkhazia conflict the team plays its home games in Tbilisi. Kharagauli ( ka, ხარაგაული ) is an administrative center of Kharagauli district in Georgia. It is situated on both banks of river in a narrow and deep gorge, 280-400m above the sea level. Founding It was founded as a railway station in the 1870s, when the Poti-Tbilisi railway was built. Kharagauli assumed an administrative, later an economic, function. Geography In the west entrance of the area, the Chkherimela river flows through a narrow gorge. On the left bank of the river, there are two statues of giants; on the right, two large holes. This area, referred to as "the giant's hole" serves as a minor tourist attraction. The riverbank also has a large park.
