2015–16 NBL Canada Season
The 2015–16 NBL Canada season was the fifth season of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). The regular season began on December 26, 2015 and concluded on April 30, 2016. There were 40 total games played by each team, eight more than the 2014–15 NBL Canada season, previous year. The new expansion Niagara River Lions team are competing in their first season. The Halifax Hurricanes also began play, replacing the defunct Halifax Rainmen. During the offseason, the Mississauga Power folded to make way for Raptors 905 of the NBA Development League. Prior to the season, the league also enforced new policies to help improve its standard, including rules regarding sportsmanship, addressing the 2015 NBL Canada Finals, brawl that ended the 2015 NBL Canada Finals. National Basketball League Of Canada
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada; ) was a Canadian professional men's minor league basketball organization. The NBL Canada was founded in 2011, when three existing Premier Basketball League teams joined with four new franchises for the league's inaugural season. The league changed in size multiple times and had four active teams in its final season, all in Ontario, but historically the NBLC had several located in the Atlantic Canada, Atlantic provinces. The league's season typically ran from November to April of the following year. The final league champions were the London Lightning, who defeated the Windsor Express 3–2 in the 2023 NBL Finals. Saint John Mill Rats
The Saint John Riptide were a Canadian professional basketball team based in Saint John, New Brunswick, that had home games at Harbour Station. They were a member of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) in the Atlantic Division. The team was one of two professional basketball teams from the province of New Brunswick, the other being the Moncton Magic. Established in 2007 as the Manchester Millrats (an expansion team based in Manchester, New Hampshire, which played in the American Basketball Association (ABA), a year later it moved to the Premier Basketball League (PBL). Tony Jones (basketball)
Tony Jones is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies men's basketball program. He had most recently served as interim head coach for the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). Playing career Jones attended Southwestern High School in Detroit, Michigan. He earned All-City honors as a basketball player and became known as the team's star. He attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he garnered All-Conference accolades. Jones later attended Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Coaching career Jones began coaching basketball in 1986, when he returned to his alma mater to direct the Detroit Southwestern basketball program. Windsor Express
The Windsor Express are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, competing in the Basketball Super League. The Express play their home games at the WFCU Centre. History On June 28, 2012, the NBL announced that Windsor had been awarded an expansion team for the 2012–13 season. As the eighth franchise, the league created divisions and placed the Express in the Central Division. On August 1, 2012 the team nickname was officially confirmed. The Express name is partially a tribute to the Underground Railroad and to the rail yards on the banks of the Detroit River. Rob Spon
Robert Spon (born July 4, 1962) is an American professional basketball coach, most recently serving as the head coach for the Cape Breton Highlanders (basketball), Cape Breton Highlanders of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada). He has previously led the Rochester RazorSharks, the Halifax Rainmen, Saint John Riptide, Saint John Mill Rats/Riptide, and several other minor league teams in the past. Julian King is an American retired professional basketball player who most recently was the head coach for the Saint John Mill Rats of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). He played at the collegiate level with Temple and Coppin State after graduating Dodge County High School. David John Magley (born November 24, 1959) is an American retired basketball player and coach. He is currently the president of both The Basketball League (TBL) and the Basketball Super League (BSL) after previously serving as commissioner of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). Ken Murray is a Canadian professional and college basketball coach. Career Murray played college basketball at Brock University from 1972 to 1977. He was the Brock Badgers' Most Valuable Player in each season and was presented with Conference All-Star accolades four times (1973–1976). Murray closed out the 1973-74 season as the third leading scorer in the country. In the 1974-75 campaign, he ranked first nationally in free-throw shooting.
