2015–16 Luxembourg National Division
The 2015–16 Luxembourg National Division was the 102nd season of top-tier football in Luxembourg. The league season started on 2 August 2015 and ended on 22 May 2016, with a promotion/relegation playoff following on 27 May. F91 Dudelange claimed the title on goal difference over 2014–15 Luxembourg National Division, defending champions CS Fola Esch, Fola Esch. Teams FC RM Hamm Benfica, RM Hamm Benfica, the 2014-15 Division of Honour champion, and FC UNA Strassen, UNA Strassen, which won the promotion play-off, were promoted to the top level for the first time in their history. Luxembourg National Division
The National Division (, , ), known as the BGL Ligue for sponsorship reasons, is the highest association football, football league in Luxembourg. Until 2011, it was known as the BGL Ligue, after the Luxembourg Football Federation managed to seal a sponsorship deal with Fortis (finance), Fortis. Before 2006, it contained twelve teams, but it expanded to fourteen for the 2006–07 Luxembourg National Division, 2006–07 season. Following the abandonment of the previous season, the 2020–21 Luxembourg National Division, 2020–21 season saw the further expansion of the league to 16 teams. The current champions are Differdange 03. The competition was first held in 1909–10 Luxembourg National Division, 1909–10, and has been held every year since, with the exceptions of 1912–13 and four seasons during the Second World War. Jeunesse Esch
Jeunesse Esch (full name ''Association Sportive la Jeunesse d'Esch/Alzette'') is a professional football club based in Esch-sur-Alzette, in south-western Luxembourg. The side play in the National Division, the highest league in the country, and have won the league title on 28 occasions between 1921 and 2010, the most of any team in Luxembourg. History The club was founded in 1907 as Jeunesse la Frontière d'Esch in reference to the proximity of their stadium to the border with France. "La frontière" was dropped to give the club its current name in 1918, which it retained until World War II, where the Nazi regime implemented the German name SV Schwarz-Weiß 07 Esch and the club had to play in the '' Gauliga Moselland'', finishing runners-up in the 1943–44 season. Stade (; ), officially the Hanseatic City of Stade (, ) is a city in Lower Saxony in northern Germany. First mentioned in records in 934, it is the seat of the district () which bears its name. The Stade de la Frontière is a multi-purpose stadium in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home stadium of Jeunesse Esch. The stadium holds 8,200 people. History Stade de la Frontière was constructed in 1920 as one of the first purpose built football stadiums in Luxembourg. In 1937, the stadium was expanded to satisfy the demands of a more professional football system. The stadium continued to be used by Jeunesse Esch during the Nazi occupation of Luxembourg, where they were forced to play in the German regional leagues. In 1970, the Canton of Esch-sur-Alzette, as the owners, paid to renovate the stadium. This included rotating the pitch 90 degrees. This was done utilising extra land provided by the Aciéries Réunies de Burbach-Eich-Dudelange (ARBED) steel company.
