Ekaterina Makarova was the defending champion, but chose not to participate this year. Daniela Hantuchová won the title, defeating Ajla Tomljanović in the final, despite being two match points down against Marina Erakovic in the third set in the semifinal. This was Hantuchová's final WTA tour singles title, before her retirement in 2017. Daniela Hantuchová
Daniela Hantuchová (; born 23 April 1983) is a Slovak tennis commentator and retired player. She turned professional in 1999 and had her breakthrough year in 2002, when she won her first WTA Tour title at the Indian Wells Open, defeating Martina Hingis in the final and becoming the lowest-ranked player to ever win the tournament. She also reached the quarterfinals of that year's 2002 Wimbledon Championships – Women's singles, Wimbledon Championships and 2002 US Open – Women's singles, US Open, ending the year in the top ten. She was part of the Slovak team that won the 2002 Fed Cup and the 2005 Hopman Cup. Stefanie Vögele (born 10 March 1990) is a Swiss professional tennis player. She achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 42 on 11 November 2013. Wang Qiang (; ; born 14 January 1992) is a Chinese tennis player. On 9 September 2019, Wang achieved her highest singles ranking of world No. 12, becoming the third-highest ranked Chinese tennis player in history after Li Na and Zheng Qinwen. She has won two singles titles on the WTA Tour, one WTA Challenger singles title, and 14 singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF Circuit. Her best performance at a major came at the 2019 US Open when she advanced to the quarterfinals.
