2014 Racquetball World Championships – Women's Doubles
The International Racquetball Federation's 17th Racquetball World Championships were held in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, from June 14 to 21, 2014. This was the second time Worlds were in Canada wherein previously, they were in Montreal in 1992. The women's doubles defending champions were Mexicans Paola Longoria and Samantha Salas and they won gold for a third straight time. In the final, they defeated American Aimee Ruiz, a former World Champion doubles player, and Janel Tisinger in two straight games. Longoria and Salas beat the Chilean team of Angela Grisar and Carla Muñoz Carla Muñoz Montesinos (born February 12, 1992) is a Chilean professional racquetball player. Angela Grisar (born May 2, 1973) is a Chilean retired racquetball player. She was the first South American woman's racquetball player to finish in the top 10 on the women's pro tour, doing so six straight seasons (2003-04 to 2008–09). She won numerous medals for Chile in international competitions, including at fouInternational Racquetball Federation (IRF)World Championships and three Pan American Games. International career Grisar was runner up in singles at the World Championships twice: in 2004, when she lost to Cheryl Gudinas in the final in Anyang, South Korea, and 2006, Canadian Christie Van Hees in the final in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Jennifer "Jen" Saunders (born November 18, 1976) is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Winnipeg, Manitoba. In her last Canadian Championships in 2019, Saunders won both Women's Singles, for a record extending 11th time, and Women's Doubles, for a 13th time. Her 11 Canadian Women's Singles Championships and 24 combined Canadian Women's Singles and Doubles Championships are Canadian women's records. Saunders was the 2009 Manitoba Female Athlete of the Year as voted by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. Saunders announced her retirement from competition in December 2019, as she accepted the position of Administrator of High Performance and Sport Development with Racquetball Canada. Frédérique T. Lambert (born March 27, 1992) is a Canadian racquetball player. Lambert is the current Canadian Champion in Women's Singles and Women's Doubles, and has won eleven Canadian Championships: six in Women's Singles and five in Women's Doubles. She has been a member of the Canadian National Team since 2008, and has won several medals in international competitions, including a silver medal in Mixed Doubles at the 2022 World Championships. 2012 Racquetball World Championships
The 16th Racquetball World Championships were held in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) from August 3 to 11, 2012, with players from 22 different countries. The championships had two parts. First, individual competitions for men's and women's singles and doubles, which took place over the first four days. Then following an off day, there was a team competition on the last three days in which countries competed against each other in a best of three match format involving two singles matches and a doubles match. This is the second time the Racquetball World Championships were held in Santo Domingo. The previous time was 2006. The 2012 World Racquetball Championships were also the qualifying event for the 2013 World Games in Cali, Colombia. The top 16 players in Santo Domingo will qualify to compete in Cali.
