Wellington Phoenix Football Club is a professional association football, football club based in Wellington, New Zealand. It competes in the Australian A-League Men, under Professional sports league organization#Systems around the world, licence from Football Federation Australia. Phoenix entered the competition in the 2007–08 A-League, 2007–08 season after its formation in March 2007, by New Zealand Football to replace New Zealand Knights FC, New Zealand Knights as a New Zealand-based club in the Australian A-League competition. Leonida Christos Bertos (born 20 December 1981) is a New Zealand football coach and former player who is the head coach of Northern NSW NPL side Weston Bears. A winger, he was a New Zealand international from 2003 to 2013, representing his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Early life Bertos was born in Wellington, to a Greek father and a New Zealand Māori mother. He attended Holy Cross primary school (1987–1994) and Wellington College (1995–1999) where he played for the school's first XI. Lewis Italiano
Lewis Italiano (born 10 December 1990) is an Australian professional goalkeeper. Club career Italiano played his junior football at Stirling Lions and later Balcatta. He moved to Inglewood United and, aged 18, gained his league debut in May 2008 against Floreat Athena. Despite an impressive start with the club, first team opportunities were scarce across three seasons with Inglewood. Italiano returned to Balcatta in 2011 and quickly became the clubs' first choice goalkeeper. In 22 league appearances he tallied up eight clean sheets to play a key role in Balcatta lifting their first Premier League title. Hamish John Sanders Watson (born 17 April 1993) is a New Zealand footballer who plays as a centre forward for Wellington Olympic. He has previously played for Lower Hutt City, Hawke's Bay United, Grimsby Town, Wellington Phoenix and Team Wellington. He has also been capped by the New Zealand U-20 side. Benjamin Robert Sigmund (born 3 February 1981) is a New Zealand former international footballer. He represented New Zealand at under-17, under-20 and senior level. Vince Lia (born 18 March 1985) is an Australian professional football (soccer) player who plays for Essendon Royals in the National Premier Leagues Victoria 3. Born in Shepparton, Lia played youth football in Victoria before making his senior debut with South Melbourne in the National Soccer League. Louis Ferenc Puskas Fenton (born 3 April 1993) is a New Zealand professional footballer who plays for National Premier Leagues Queensland club Lions FC. Jason Thomas Hicks is a footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for NRFL Division 1 side Albany United.
