2013–14 Logan Cup
The 2013–14 Logan Cup was a first-class cricket competition held in Zimbabwe from 9 December 2013 to 26 April 2014. The tournament was won by the Mountaineers, who claimed their first title. Regis Chakabva of the Mashonaland Eagles finished the competition as the leading run-scorer, accumulating 588 runs. The leading wicket-taker was Donald Tiripano of the Mountaineers, who took 34 wickets. The season was disrupted after the first round of matches, due to a player boycott following non-payment of salaries. The second round of matches, which were due to be played between 17 and 20 December 2013, was ultimately cancelled. The tournament resumed on 24 February 2014. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), previously known as the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) until 2004, is the governing body for the sport of cricket in Zimbabwe. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Mountaineers Cricket Team
The Mountaineers is one of five cricket Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are a first-class cricket team, based in the Manicaland and Mashonaland East area. They play their home matches at Mutare Sports Club in Mutare. Franchise history Following the decline of the standards of cricket in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Cricket decided to use a new set of teams for all the first-class, List A and Twenty20 formats of the domestic game. A total of 5 franchises were named, and the Mountaineers team was based in Manicaland. 2009-10 Logan Cup On their debut in this tournament, Mountaineers finished in third place in the group, with three wins from twelve games. Their debut first-class match against Mashonaland Eagles was a draw, thanks mainly to captain Hamilton Masakadza's century. Regis Chakabva
Regis Wiriranai Chakabva (born 20 September 1987) is a Zimbabwean cricketer and vice-captain of the team in all formats of the game. He is a right-handed wicket-keeper batter. He played through school-level cricket and started making his mark as a good batter with sound wicket-keeping abilities. He got picked to play for Zimbabwe. Domestic career Chakabva made his first-class debut for Northerns in an April 2007 Logan Cup match against Easterns. Opening the batting, he made scores of 0 and 5 in the match. After just four first-class matches for his province and with a top score of 35, he was picked for a Zimbabwe A side. He made his first half-century against a South African academy side in August 2007. The Mashonaland Eagles is one of five cricket Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are based in the Harare Metropolitan and Mashonaland Central area and play both first-class and limited overs cricket. They play their home matches at Harare Sports Club in Harare. Franchise history In the 2009–10 season, Zimbabwe Cricket following the decline of the standard of cricket, decided to use a new set of teams in all the first-class, List A and T20 domestic formats of the game. Donald Tiripano
Donald Tatenda Tiripano (born 17 March 1988) is a Zimbabwean cricketer, who plays for the national team. He is a right-arm fast bowler and tail-ended batsman. Domestic career Tiripano was the leading run-scorer in the 2017–18 Logan Cup for Mountaineers, with 678 runs in eight matches. He was the leading wicket-taker in the 2018–19 Logan Cup, with 25 dismissals in six matches. In December 2020, he was selected to play for the Mountaineers in the 2020–21 Logan Cup. International career He was named in the Zimbabwe squad for Afghanistan tour of Zimbabwe. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut at Queens Sports Club against Afghanistan where he took 2/51, as Zimbabwe won by 6 wickets. Matabeleland Tuskers
The Matabeleland Tuskers is one of five Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are a first-class cricket team, based in the Bulawayo Metropolitan and Matabeleland North area. They play their home matches at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. They were formed in 2009, when the domestic game in Zimbabwean cricket was restructured. History In their first season, they suffered disappointing results, placing fourth in the Logan Cup, and failing to qualify for the final of either the one-day or Twenty20 competitions. The following season, they qualified for the final of the Logan Cup as league runners-up, and despite missing their best four batsmen in the final, defeated the Mountaineers by 18 runs to claim their first title. Mid West Rhinos
The Mid West Rhinos is one of the five cricket Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are a first-class cricket team, based in Midlands Province and the Mashonaland West area. They play their home matches at Kwekwe Sports Club in Kwekwe. History In 2009, Zimbabwe Cricket announced a major restructure of domestic cricket in Zimbabwe and the traditional provincial sides were replaced with regional franchises. Midlands was renamed Mid West Rhinos and based in the mining town of Kwekwe. With the new franchise system in place the season got under way on 14 September 2009. Current captain Vusimuzi Sibanda was the first person to score a hundred under the new 'Mid West Rhinos' name as they convincingly beat the newly titled Matabeleland Tuskers by 135 runs.
