2013 Venice Film Festival
The 70th annual Venice International Film Festival, was held from 28 August to 7 September 2013, at Venice Lido in Italy. Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci was the jury president for the main competition. He was previously the president of the jury at the 40th edition in 1983. Italian actress Eva Riccobono hosted the opening and closing nights of the festival. The Golden Lion was awarded to '' Sacro GRA'' by Gianfranco Rosi, marking the first documentary film to ever win it. American filmmaker William Friedkin received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the festival. The festival opened with ''Gravity'' by Alfonso Cuarón, and closed with '' Amazonia'' by Thierry Ragobert. Gravity (2013 Film)
''Gravity'' is a 2013 science fiction thriller film directed by Alfonso Cuarón, who also co-wrote, co-edited, and produced the film. It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as American astronauts who attempt to return to Earth after the destruction of their Space Shuttle in orbit. Cuarón wrote the screenplay with his son Jonás and attempted to develop the film at Universal Pictures. Later, the distribution rights were acquired by Warner Bros. Pictures. David Heyman, who previously worked with Cuarón on '' Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'' (2004), produced the film with him. ''Gravity'' was produced entirely in the United Kingdom, where British visual effects company Framestore spent more than three years creating most of the film's visual effects, which involve over 80 of its 91 minutes. Renato Berta is a Swiss cinematographer and film director, best known for his collaborations with directors Alain Tanner and Jean-Marie Straub. Ryuichi Sakamoto
was a Music of Japan, Japanese musician, composer, keyboardist, record producer, singer and actor. He pursued a diverse range of styles as a solo artist and as a member of the Synthesizer, synth-based band Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). With his YMO bandmates Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, Sakamoto influenced and pioneered a number of electronic music genres.
