2013 Skate America
The 2013 Hilton HHonors Skate America was the first event of six in the 2013–14 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan on October 17–20. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (known as ISU Champions Series from 1995 to 1997) is a series of senior international figure skating competitions organized by the International Skating Union. The invitational series was inaugurated in 1995, incorporating several previously existing events. Medals are awarded in single skating, men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. Single Skating
Single skating is a discipline of figure skating in which male and female skaters compete individually. Men's singles and women's singles are governed by the International Skating Union (ISU). Figure skating is the oldest winter sport contested at the Olympics, with men's and women's single skating appearing as two of the four figure skating events at the London Games in 1908. Single skaters are required to perform two segments in all international competitions, the short program and the free skating program. Nathan Chen from the United States holds both the highest single men's short program and free skating scores; Russian skater Kamila Valieva holds both the highest single women's short program and free skating scores. Elene Gedevanishvili
Elene Gedevanishvili (, born 7 January 1990) is a Georgian former competitive figure skater. She is a two-time (2012, 2010) European bronze medalist. In winning the medal in 2010, Gedevanishvili became the first skater from Georgia to medal at an ISU Championships. She has competed at three Winter Olympics: Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. Personal life Elene Gedevanishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR. She is the elder sister of Dmitri Gedevanishvili, a competitive alpine skier. She graduated from Plymouth State University in Spring 2019 with Bachelor of Science in psychology of exercise. Lloyd Jones (born 1 August 1988) is a Welsh-French former competitive ice dancer. He represented France from 2009 to 2014. With Pernelle Carron, he is the 2011 Cup of China bronze medalist, 2013 Figure skating at the Winter Universiade, Winter Universiade champion, 2010 International Cup of Nice, Cup of Nice champion, three-time NRW Trophy champion, and 2010 French Figure Skating Championships, French national champion. Pernelle Carron (born 20 August 1986) is a French former competitive ice dancer. With partner Lloyd Jones, she is the 2013 Winter Universiade champion, 2010 Cup of Nice champion, three-time NRW Trophy champion, and 2010 French national champion. She won bronze at two Grand Prix events, 2011 Cup of China and 2007 Skate Canada International, and competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Michael Marinaro (born January 7, 1992) is a Canadian retired competitive pair skater. In an eight-year partnership with Kirsten Moore-Towers from 2014 to 2022, he achieved distinction both domestically and internationally, winning three Canadian Figure Skating Championships, Canadian national titles (2019–20, 2022). Margaret Purdy (born January 18, 1995) is a Canadian former competitive pair skater. With Michael Marinaro, she is the 2013 World Junior silver medalist and 2010 Canadian national junior champion. Personal life Purdy attended the University of Western Ontario from September 2014 to 2018, studying social sciences. Career Purdy started skating at age four as a hockey player and switched to figure skating at age seven. In May 2007, Purdy teamed up with Michael Marinaro to train in pairs. Kirsten Moore-Towers
Kirsten Moore-Towers (born July 1, 1992) is a Canadian retired competitive pair skater who competed internationally at the senior level for thirteen seasons from 2009 to 2022. She first achieved distinction partnered with Dylan Moscovitch, winning the 2011 Canadian national title. The two won silver at the 2013 Four Continents Championships, as well as seven medals on the ISU Grand Prix, qualifying to three Grand Prix Finals and finishing fourth at two consecutive World Championships. Alexei Alexandrovich Sitnikov (; born 23 May 1986) is a former competitive ice dancer. Competing for Azerbaijan with Julia Zlobina, he is the 2013 Golden Spin of Zagreb champion, 2013 Volvo Open Cup champion, 2012 Nebelhorn Trophy silver medalist, and 2013 Winter Universiade silver medalist.
