2013 Central Java Gubernatorial Election
The 2013 Central Java gubernatorial election was held on 26 May 2013 to elect both the governor and vice governor of Central Java. The incumbent, Bibit Waluyo, ran for re-election as a member of the Democratic Party, despite being first elected as a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in 2008. In the election, he faced Ganjar Pranowo of the PDI-P and Hadi Prabowo of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), being defeated by the former. Candidates This general election was contested by three candidates. Incumbent, Bibit Waluyo, ran for re-election with Sudijono, the Chancellor of the State University of Semarang. The PDI-P (who had supported Waluyo in the 2008 election), brought Ganjar Pranowo, a member of the People's Representative Council as a candidate, together with Heru Sudjatmoko who was serving as the Regent of Purbalingga. Ganjar Pranowo
Ganjar Pranowo (born 28 October 1968) is the Governor of Central Java who has served since 23 August 2013. He is a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle. Previously, he was a member of the People's Representative Council of the PDI-P faction for the 2004–2009 and 2009–2013 periods. In addition, Ganjar also served as General Chairperson of KAGAMA (Alumni Family of Gadjah Mada University) for the 2014–2019 period. Sumedang Regency is a landlocked regency ''(kabupaten)'' of West Java province, Indonesia. The district of North Sumedang is its capital. Rustriningsih (born 3 July 1967) is an Indonesian politician who served as the Vice Governor of Central Java between 2008 and 2013. Previously, she served two terms as the regent of Kebumen. She was formerly a member of PDI-P, until she left the party around 2014 following her support for Prabowo Subianto in the 2014 Indonesian presidential election. Early life and education Rustriningsih was born in Kedungampel village of Kebumen, Central Java on 3 July 1967 as the eighth of ten children. Bibit Waluyo (born 5 August 1949) is an Indonesian politician and lieutenant general, who served as the governor of Central Java from 2008 until 2013, when he was defeated by Ganjar Pranowo. Prior to entering politics, he was an officer in the Indonesian Army, rising to the rank of lieutenant general and going on to hold the command of Kodam Jaya. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle ( id, Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan, PDI-P) is an Indonesian political party, and the party of the current President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
