2012–13 LKL Season
The 2012–13 Lietuvos krepšinio lyga was the 20th season of the top-tier level professional basketball league of Lithuania, the Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL). Competition format Every team except BC Žalgiris, Žalgiris and BC Lietuvos rytas, Lietuvos rytas played 22 games, two against each other. Those two teams, due to their participation in 2012–13 Euroleague, EuroLeague, played only eleven games, all of them away. The eight first qualified teams joined the playoffs. Quarterfinal series were played with a best-of-three series format, semifinals with a best-of-five and the finals with a best-of-seven games format. Lietuvos Krepšinio Lyga
Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL; ), also known as Betsafe LKL for sponsorship reasons, is the premier men's professional club basketball league in Lithuania. It is composed of 10 teams, and it is a member of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. The best LKL clubs are also annual participants of the top European-wide basketball competitions, including the top-tier level EuroLeague. On April 22, 1993, the Lietuvos krepšinio asociacija (LKA; ) was founded. It was the first professional sports organisation in Lithuania. Lietuvos krepšinio lyga was built on the foundation of the LKA. Former basketball player Šarūnas Marčiulionis is named as the founder of the league. He was the first president of the LKL and served from 1993 to 2002. Remigijus Milašius is the current president of the league since 2013. The league's headquarters is located in Vilnius. BC Sakalai
BC Sakalai was a professional basketball club based in Vilnius, Lithuania, playing in the Lithuanian Basketball League and the Baltic Basketball League. They played their home games at the 1,000-seat Ekinstos laisvalaikio centras. Sakalai means falcons in Lithuanian language. Franchise history Beginning and LKAL champions (1991–1994) BC Sakalai began playing in 1991 at the Lithuanian Basketball A League (LKAL). In 1994, Sakalai managed to win the LKAL Championship and in June 1994, the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) Committee accepted them into the LKL. LKL debut (1994–1995) In their debut season, Sakalai finished in eighth place (17 wins and 23 losses), and were coached by Šarūnas Sakalauskas. Their first win was against NECA Kaunas, 100–88. Mindaugas Katelynas
Mindaugas Katelynas (born 16 May 1983) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player. Playing career Born in Alytus, Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic, Lithuanian SSR, Soviet Union, Katelynas grew up with Alytus youth basketball team. In 2001, he accepted a scholarship at the United States's USU-College of Eastern Utah, College of Eastern Utah, which participated in NJCAA tournaments. Two years later, he moved to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Tennessee-Chattanooga of NCAA's Division I (NCAA), Division I. While at Chattanooga, Tennessee, Chattanooga, Katelynas won the NCAA dunk contest in 2005. Lietuvos Rytas Arena
The Active Vilnius Arena is a 2,741-seat basketball arena in Vilnius, Lithuania, built next to Twinsbet Arena that is used mostly as a home venue of Rytas Vilnius of the Lithuanian Basketball League and Kibirkštis Vilnius of the Lithuanian Women's Basketball League. History In 2014, its capacity was expanded from 1,700 seats to 2,500 seats with the aim to host EuroCup games. Robertas Javtokas (born March 20, 1980) is a Lithuanian professional basketball executive and former player. He most recently served as sports director of Žalgiris Kaunas. Standing at , he played the center position. He has been a member of the senior men's Lithuanian national team since 2004. Mindaugas Girdžiūnas (born 20 January 1989) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player currently playing for Neptūnas Klaipėda. Professional career Girdžiūnas joined Neptūnas in 2009, after showing good performance in Lithuanian third strongest basketball league - Regional Basketball League playing for Klaipėdos Tekoda.
