2012–13 Japan Figure Skating Championships
The 2012–13 Japan Figure Skating Championships took place on December 20–24, 2012 at the Makomanai Ice Arena in Sapporo. It was the 81st edition of the event. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles and ice dancing. No pairs competition was held this year. 2012–13 Figure Skating Season
The 2012–13 figure skating season began on July 1, 2012, and ended on June 30, 2013. During this season, elite skaters from men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance competed on the International Skating Union (ISU) Championship level at the 2013 European, Four Continents, World Junior, and World Championships. They also competed in elite events such as the Grand Prix series and Junior Grand Prix series, culminating in the Grand Prix Final. Ice Dancing
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. Ice dance, like pair skating, has its roots in the "combined skating" developed in the 19th century by skating clubs and organizations and in recreational social skating. Couples and friends would skate waltzes, marches, and other social dances. The first steps in ice dance were similar to those used in ballroom dancing. Ryuichi Kihara
is a Japanese pair skater. With his skating partner, Riku Miura, he is the 2023 and 2025 World champion, two-time World silver medalist (2022, 2024), a two-time Four Continents champion (2023, 2025), the 2022–23 Grand Prix Final champion, a six-time ISU Grand Prix medalist (three golds, two silvers, one bronze), three-time ISU Challenger Series medalist (one gold, two silvers), and two-time Japanese national champions ( 2019–20, 2024–25). Shoma Uno
is a retired Japanese figure skater. He is a three-time Olympic medalist ( 2018 silver, 2022 bronze, 2022 team silver), a two-time World champion (2022, 2023), and a two-time World silver medalist (2018, 2017). is a Japanese former figure skater. He has won five senior international medals, seven ISU Junior Grand Prix medals – including bronze at the 2012–13 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, 2012–13 JGP Final, and two (2011, 2012) Japan Junior Figure Skating Championships, Japanese national junior titles. Tatsuki Machida
(born March 9, 1990) is a Japanese retired figure skater. He is the 2014 World silver medalist, the 2010 Four Continents silver medalist, and the 2013–14 Japanese national silver medalist. Machida is the winner of four Grand Prix events — the 2012 Cup of China, 2013 Skate America, 2013 Rostelecom Cup, and 2014 Skate America. Kento Nakamura
is a Japanese former competitive figure skater. He is the 2011 NRW Trophy bronze medalist, the 2013 Bavarian Open silver medalist, a two-time medalist on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, and the 2011 Japan junior national champion. Takahiko Kozuka
is a former competitive Japanese figure skater. He is the 2011 World silver medalist, a two-time Grand Prix Final medalist, a two-time Four Continents medalist, and the 2010–11 Japanese national champion. is a retired Japanese competitive figure skater. He is the 2006 Four Continents champion, a four-time Grand Prix Final medalist (silver in 2009 and 2010; bronze in 2006 and 2013), the 2005 World Junior champion and the 2008 Japanese national champion.
