2012 United States Gubernatorial Elections
United States gubernatorial elections were held in 12 states (including a 2012 Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election, recall election in Wisconsin on June 5) and two territories. Of the eight Democratic Party (United States), Democratic and four Republican Party (United States), Republican seats contested, only that of 2012 North Carolina gubernatorial election, North Carolina changed party hands, giving the Republicans a net gain of one governorship. These elections (except for 2012 Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election, Wisconsin) coincided with the 2012 United States presidential election, presidential election on November 6, 2012. As of 2024, this marked the last time in which a Democrat won the governorship in Missouri, and the last time in which a Republican won the governorship in North Carolina. 2012 Wisconsin Gubernatorial Recall Election
The 2012 Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election was a special election to elect the Governor of Wisconsin, governor and Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, lieutenant governor of Wisconsin. It resulted in voters re-electing incumbent Republican governor Scott Walker (politician), Scott Walker over the Democratic candidate Tom Barrett (Wisconsin politician), Tom Barrett by a larger margin than in Wisconsin gubernatorial election, 2010, 2010 when Walker also faced Barrett. Recall organizers opposed Walker's agenda, particularly his limiting of collective bargaining rights for state employees and they collected over 900,000 signatures to initiate the recall election process. There was also a recall for Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. She won her race, defeating Democrat Mahlon Mitchell, making her the first lieutenant governor to run in and survive a recall. Gary Herbert
Gary Richard Herbert (born May 7, 1947) is an American politician who served as the 17th governor of Utah from 2009 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he chaired the National Governors Association during the 2015–2016 cycle. Herbert was appointed to a seat on the Utah County Commission in 1990, where he served 14 years. He ran for the Republican nomination for governor in 2004, ultimately becoming fellow Republican candidate Jon Huntsman's running mate in the general election. John Stewart Dalrymple III (born October 16, 1948) is an American politician and businessman who served as the 32nd governor of North Dakota from 2010 to 2016. Pat McCrory
Patrick Lloyd McCrory (born October 17, 1956) is an American politician and businessman who served as the 74th governor of North Carolina from 2013 to 2017. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the 53rd mayor of Charlotte from 1995 to 2009. To date, he is North Carolina's most recent Republican governor. While serving as mayor of Charlotte, McCrory served on the U.S. Homeland Security Advisory Council from 2002 to 2006 under President George W. Bush. Beverly Marlene Eaves Perdue (née Moore; January 14, 1947) is an American businesswoman, politician, and member of the Democratic Party who served as the 73rd governor of North Carolina from 2009 to 2013. Margaret Wood Hassan ( ; ; born February 27, 1958) is an American politician and attorney serving as the junior United States senator for New Hampshire since 2017.
