Liga de Elite (; ), previously known as Campeonato da 1ª Divisão do Futebol, is the top division of the Associação de Futebol de Macau, Macau Football Association, created in 1973. The league features local players and professional foreign players. Due to the lack of football fields in Macau, most matches are played at the Estádio Campo Desportivo. As with Football in Hong Kong, Hong Kong, the league is separate from the mainland Chinese football league system. The league is generally played between January and July of each calendar year. History In the inaugural 2014 edition, G.D. Lam Pak, Lam Pak, Lam Ieng and Kuan Tai all forfeited from the First Division before the start of the competition. Lam Pak and Lam Ieng withdrew due to the lack of backing from sponsors and Kuan Tai cited budget issues and could no longer afford to pay some of its players. Ka I () are a Macanese professional football club that competes in the Liga de Elite. History Founded in Taipa in 1985 under the name Associacão Desportiva Ka I, the club has seven titles to its name: three Liga de Elite titles and four Taça de Macau. They have been one of the best clubs in Macau since their debut in Liga de Elite in 2009. Led by Japanese midfielder Dan Ito, the club made their debut in Liga de Elite in 2009 season, where they managed to finish in second place in the standings, just behind Lam Pak, while winning their first trophy, Taça de Macau.
