The 2011–12 Uruguayan Segunda División Uruguay, Segunda División is the season of second division professional of football in Uruguay. A total of 13 teams will compete; the top two teams and the winner of the Championship play-offs are promoted to the Uruguayan Primera División. Plaza Colonia
Club Plaza Colonia de Deportes, or simply Plaza Colonia, is a Uruguayan professional football club from Colonia del Sacramento, that competes in the Uruguayan Primera Division. Founded in 1917, the club plays its home games at the 3,000 seater Estadio Juan Gaspar Prandi. History The club was founded on April 22, 1917 by Alberto Suppici. They played in the Regional league of Colonia until 1999. They gained their affiliation with AUF in 2000. In 2001 they won promotion to the Primera División Uruguaya and in their debut season they finished in 7th place. In 2003 the club finally fell to the Second Division after a poor campaign. In 2004 the club was promoted back to the first division, but in 2005 they went back down after another poor campaign. In 2006 they did not play the championship because of financial difficulties. Maldonado () is the capital city of Maldonado Department, in eastern Uruguay. According to the 2023 Census, it is the fourth most populated city in the country, with about 102 thousand inhabitants. History Sud América was formed from the team formerly known as the "Montevideo Helios". Sud América has won the Uruguayan 2nd Division on 7 occasions, this is a national record they share with Fénix. Miramar Misiones
Club Sportivo Miramar Misiones, usually known simply as Miramar Misiones is a Uruguayan football club based in Montevideo. The club was formed from the merger of two clubs: Miramar (founded on October 17, 1915) and Misiones (founded on March 26, 1906), in June 1980. As part of the merger, the new strip for the new club was a mixture of those of the previous two clubs. The home strip (white and black) is the old Miramar strip, and the away strip was the one used by Misiones. What made this merger notable was that Miramar and Misiones were local derby rivals, having both originated in the same neighbourhood of Montevideo. Previous to the creation of this club, Miramar also merged with legendary club Albion in 1976, forming 'Albion Miramar'. However, this entity lasted for only 2 seasons. Central Español Fútbol Club, usually known simply as Central Español is a Uruguayan football club based in Montevideo. History The F.U.F era Together with Peñarol, Central founded FUF (Uruguayan football federation) in 1923 after being expelled from AUF. The FUF even made a parallel Uruguay national team (dissident to AUF) that played several international games based on Peñarol and Central squads. After 3 years of existence the new federation was dissolved and both teams returned to AUF. Merging Central append "Español" to its name after an agreement signed with a Spanish group in 1971.
